Abstract: Thirteen years of the Hubble Space Telescope have conditioned us to think that the best angular resolution is to be had from space. But the Giant Segmented Mirror Telescope is being designed for 10 milliarcsecond resolution from the ground. Fifteen years ago amateur astronomers outperformed professionals in finding supernovae. The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope will seem like a supernova factory to physicists.
