Week 01:   
    Aug. 22    No Class.
    Aug. 24    Class Starts.  Introduction of Course.  Ch. 3.
                    Extra-credit #1 (5 points): One double-spaced, typewritten page describing why you are taking this
                    course.  Describe how you think this course will benefit you in your pursuit of your degree.
                    Due at the start of class on Monday, Aug. 29.  No late papers accepted.
    Aug. 26    Ch. 3.  H-ITT “TEST 1” (points not retained).
                    Demo: Feather and Penny.

Week 02:
    Aug. 29    Extra-credit #1 due at the START of class.  Ch. 3 and 4.
                    H-ITT “TEST 2” (points not retained).  Demo: Car on Track, velocity and acceleration.
    Aug. 31    Ch. 4 and Ch. 5.  H-ITT “TEST 3” (points not retained).
                    Demo: 1,4,9,… Drop.  1D Toss/Drop.
    Sep. 01    Ch. 5.  Finish 1D Toss/Drop.  2D Projectile.
                    Demo:  Monkey catches ball.  Demo:  Ball launch on cart.
                    H-ITT System for points begins.

Week 03:   
    Sep. 05    No class, Labor Day.
    Sep. 07    Projectile Motion, Continued (Ch. 5). 
    Sep. 09   
Newton's Laws (Review, Ch. 4-5) and Equilibrium.  Work and Energy (Ch. 7).
                      Distribute copy of Official Note Sheet for MTE1.

Week 04:
    Sep. 12    Finish Work and Energy (Ch. 7).  Work Problems of 2D Forces.
    Sep. 14    Finish 2D Problems.  Answer Questions about problems for the Mid-term Exam.
    Sep. 16    In-class review for Mid-Term Exam 1, work on problems/questions from the students.
                   
Mid-term Exam 1:  Friday, 16 September, NPB 1001, Periods E2-E3 (8:20 pm to 10:10 pm).
                        Mid-term Exam will cover material from class and Chapters 3, 4, 5, 7.


Week 05:   
    Sep. 19   Review Mid-term Exam 1 (MTE1) results posted on webpages. 
                        Start Ch. 8, Impulse and Momentum.

    Sep. 21    Conservation of Linear Momentum (continued, Ch. 8).  1D collisions.
                        Firecracker soda cans and air track collisions.

    Sep. 23    Conservation of Linear Momentum (finish, Ch. 8).  Ballistic Pendulum and 2D collisions.
                        

Week 06:
    Sep. 26    Rotational Motion (Start Ch. 6)

    Sep. 28    Rotational Motion (Ch. 6) and Rotational Momentum (Ch. 9)
    Sep. 30   
Gator Can Nationals   Bring a can of food (no soda cans) to race for 5 Extra Credit Points. 
                        You will want to choose a "fast" or "slow" can (one entry per person please). 
                        The "Total Winner" and "Complete Looser" win valuable prizes. 
                        If you do not want to lug your can back home, you may leave it with me and
                        I will take all items to the St. Francis House in downtown Gainesville.


Week 07:
    Oct. 03    Finish Rotational Topics (Ch. 6 and 9) and Start Bodies in Equilibrium (Ch. 10)

    Oct. 05    Finish Ch. 10, Bed of Nails (Theory and Experiment)
    Oct. 07    No Class, Homecoming Holiday.

Week 08:
    Oct. 10    Ch. 11 (Sections 3 and 4) and Ch. 12.  Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Hydrostatics/Hydrodynamics.

    Oct. 12    Ch. 12 continued.  Distribute Formula Sheets for MTE2. 
                    Announce "On Aluminum Boats!" Extra Credit (5 pts) due Monday, 17 Oct, start of class.

    Oct. 14    Ch. 12 and 13.

Week 09:
    Oct. 17    "On Aluminum Boats!" Extra Credit due at start of class.  Review for MTE2.

    Oct. 19    In-class review for Mid-Term Exam 2.  Answer YOUR questions.
                  
Mid-term Exam 2:  Wednesday, 19 October, NEB 100, Periods E2-E3 (8:20 pm to 10:10 pm).
                        Material from MTE1 to end of Ch. 13 and lecture material.
                         (Chapters 8, 6, 9, 10, 11 (Sections 3-4), 12, 13).

    Oct. 20    Review MTE2 results.  Start Ch. 14 & 15.

Week 10:
    Oct. 24    Continue Ch. 14 & Ch. 15.

    Oct. 26    Continue Ch. 14 & 15. 
    Oct. 28    Finish 14 & 15 and related material.

Week 11:
    Oct. 31    Start Ch. 16.

    Nov. 02    Ch. 16 and Ch. 17.
    Nov. 04    Ch. 18.

Week 12:
    Nov. 07    Ch. 18.

    Nov. 09    Finish Ch. 18 and Start Ch. 19.
    Nov. 11    No Class, Veterans’ Day Holiday.

Week 13:
    Nov. 14    Ch. 19.

    Nov. 16    Ch. 19 and Start preparation for mid-term exam.
    Nov. 18    Putting it all together for mid-term exam.

Week 14:
    Nov. 21    In-class review for Mid-Term Exam 3 (MTE3).  Answer YOUR questions.
    Nov. 22    
Mid-term Exam 3:  Tuesday, 22 November, NPB 1001, Periods E2-E3 (8:20 pm to 10:10 pm).
                      Material from Mid-term Exam 2 up to material on Nov. 18, including Ch. 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19.
    Nov. 23    No Class:  Student Reading Day due to evening exam on preceding day.
    Nov. 25    No Class, Thanksgiving Holiday.

    Dec. 02    Refraction and Total Internal Reflection.
