Week 01:   
    Aug. 21    No Class.
    Aug. 23    Class Starts.  Introduction of Course.  Ch. 3.
                    Extra-credit #1 (5 points): One double-spaced, typewritten page describing why you are taking this
                    course.  Describe how you think this course will benefit you in your pursuit of your degree.
                    Due at the start of class on Monday, Aug. 28.  No late papers accepted.
    Aug. 25    Ch. 3.  H-ITT “TEST 1” (points not retained).  EXTRA CREDIT #1 (5 points) due at the start of class on
                    Monday, Aug. 28.  Demo: Feather and Penny.

Week 02:
    Aug. 28    Extra-credit #1 due at the START of class.  Ch. 3 and 4.
                    H-ITT “TEST 2” (points not retained).  Demo: Car on Track, velocity and acceleration.
    Aug. 30    Ch. 3, Ch. 4, and Ch. 5.  H-ITT Starts (points RETAINED).
                    Demo: 1,4,9,… Drop.  1D Toss/Drop.
    Sep. 01    Ch. 4 and Ch. 5.  Finish 1D Toss/Drop.  2D Projectile.
                    Demo:  Monkey catches ball.
                   
Week 03:   
    Sep. 04    No class, Labor Day.
    Sep. 06    Projectile Motion, Continued (Ch. 5). 
Demo:  Ball launch on cart.
    Sep. 08   
Newton's Laws (Review, Ch. 4-5) and Equilibrium.  Demo: force carts, rope. Work Problems of 2D Forces.
                     
Week 04:
    Sep. 11    Work and Energy (Ch. 7). 
Distribute copy of Official Note Sheet for MTE1 (and Review).
    Sep. 13    Review Work and Energy (Ch. 7).  Answer Questions about problems for the Mid-term Exam.
    Sep. 15    In-class review for Mid-Term Exam 1, work on problems/questions from the students.
                      No In-Class HITT on this day.
                   

    Sep. 15    Mid-term Exam 1:  7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, BRY 130.
                        Mid-term Exam will cover material from class and Chapters 3, 4, 5, 7. (announced on 11 Sep.).


Week 05:   
    Sep. 18   Review Mid-term Exam 1 (MTE1) results posted on webpages. 
                        Start Ch. 8, Impulse and Momentum.  Clackers, bouncing balls, and firecracker soda cans.
    Sep. 20    Conservation of Linear Momentum (continued, Ch. 8).  1D collisions.
                        Bed of Nails and air track collisions.  2D collisions.
    Sep. 22    Conservation of Linear Momentum (finish, Ch. 8).  Ballistic Pendulum and 2D collisions.
                         Handout on comparison of Linear and Rotational Dynamics.
                        
Week 06:
    Sep. 25    Rotational Motion (Start Ch. 6).  Ball on a string.  Cans on inclined plane.
    Sep. 27    Rotational Motion (Ch. 6) and Rotational Momentum (Ch. 9).  Batons, rotating chair, bike wheel.
    Sep. 29   
Gator Can Nationals   Bring a can of food (no soda cans) to race for 5 Extra Credit Points. 
                        You will want to choose a "fast" or "slow" can (one entry per person please). 
                        The "Total Winner" and "Complete Looser" win valuable prizes. 
                        If you do not want to lug your can back home, you may leave it with me and
                        I will take all items to the St. Francis House in downtown Gainesville.


Week 07:
    Oct. 02   Finish Rotational Topics (Ch. 6 and 9) and Start Bodies in Equilibrium (Ch. 10).  Torque and Center of Mass.
    Oct. 04    Finish Ch. 10.  Worked examples of recent concepts.
    Oct. 06    No Class, Homecoming Holiday.

Week 08:
    Oct. 09    Ch. 11 (Sections 3 and 4) and Ch. 12.  Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Hydrostatics/Hydrodynamics.
    Oct. 11    Ch. 12 continued.  Distribute Formula Sheets for MTE2. 
                    Announce "On Aluminum Boats!" Extra Credit (5 pts) due Monday, 16 Oct, start of class.
    Oct. 13    Ch. 12 and 13.  Email Problems to be worked by Sunday, 6 pm.
   
Week 09:
    Oct. 16    "On Aluminum Boats!" Extra Credit due at start of class.  Review for MTE2.
    Oct. 17    Tuesday: "Special Office Hour", meet in Lobby at 5:30 pm and we will find room to work problems.
    Oct. 18    In-class review for Mid-Term Exam 2.  Answer YOUR questions.  No In-Class HITT on this day.
   

    Oct. 18    Mid-term Exam 2:  7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, BRY 130.
                        Mid-term Exam will cover material from MTE1 to end of lecture on Fri. 13 Oct.
                        (i.e. material in class and Chapters 8, 6, 9, 10, 11 (Sections 3-4), 12, 13).

    Oct. 20    Reading Day, no formal class meeting due to Wednesday evening exam.


Week 10:
    Oct. 23   
Review MTE2 results.  Start Ch. 14 & 15.
    Oct. 25    Continue Ch. 14 & 15. 
    Oct. 27    Continue 14 & 15 and related material.

Week 11:
    Oct. 30    Finish 14 & 15.  Start Ch. 16.
    Nov. 01    Ch. 16.
    Nov. 03    Finish Ch. 16 and related material.  Start Ch. 17.
                    Note: 61 HITT Points to Date.


Week 12:
    Nov. 06    Ch. 17 and Start Ch. 18.
    Nov. 08    Ch. 18.
    Nov. 10    No Class, Veterans’ Day Holiday.

Week 13:
    Nov. 13    Finish Ch. 18 and Start Ch. 19.  Distribute Formula Sheets for MTE3.
    Nov. 15    Ch. 19.
    Nov. 17   
Start preparation for mid-term exam. Putting it all together.

Week 14:
    Nov. 20    In-class review for Mid-Term Exam 3 (MTE3).  Answer YOUR questions. 


    Nov. 21    Mid-term Exam 3:  7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, BRY 130.
                        Mid-term Exam will cover material from MTE2 to end of the day 15 Nov.
