7 Tesla SQUID Magnetometer General Operating Rules
(Version of 17 September 2002)

Please Follow These Instructions.  All Users are Responsible for Knowing and Following All of the Items

DO NOT REMOVE ANY EQUIPMENT, MANUALS, or DATA BOOKS from B133!
(If you need copies of the manuals or data book, please ask for permission and return promptly.)
  1. Do NOT charge the magnet when the Helium level is < 50 %.
  2. Sample Insertion and Removal at H = 0 and T = 300 K.
  3. When you finish your run and have removed your last sample, return the system to T = 10 K and H = 0.
  4. Initialize the Sample Transport before loosening finger screws used to secure the sample rod head.
  5. All measurements must be logged in the sample book.
  6. All Users must sign the schedule book.
  7. Check the status of O-rings at the sample entrance port whenever you insert or remove a probe.  (For details, see the sign taped to the front of the magnetometer.)
  8. Return the system to H = 0 and T = 10 K at the end of each sequence.
  9. Runs must end by 10:00 hrs for the next User.  If you are not present at the end of your run and you have not made previous arrangements with the next User, then your sample will be pulled.  Runs may be interrupted/terminated for LHe transfers.
  10. Remove your samples and clean the lab area when you are finished.
  11. Do NOT use the computer (e.g. to extract data) unless it is on your time or you have notified present User.
  12. The SQUID computer is for SQUID operation only, and it is not to be used for manuscript preparation or detailed data analysis.
  13. Each User should only use their designated data file.
  14. Data must me stored to hard disk and subsequently copied/extracted to the User's own diskette.  Sequence files and other files should be backed-up in the event of hard-drive crash (it has happened!).  Users will receive reasonable notice when the hard-disk needs to be cleaned of old files.  The guideline will be that any files over six months old are likely to be purged without any warning or notice.  The erasing of files should be performed by authorized personnel only, and it should not be done by the Users.
  15. Users are responsible for replacing broken sample rods and purchasing their own consumables.
  16. The LHe level should be logged every day into the small, thin, green lab book.
  17. Helium transfers may be performed only by Mark Meisel, Ju-Hyun Park, or Erik Cizmar.
  18. Helium transfers and unusual behavior/events must be recorded in the system status log book and reported to Mark Meisel or Ju-Hyun Park..
