Darryl Butt - Dr. Butt's research
has involved assessing the kinetics of reactions and the effects of
various environments on materials properties. His investigations have
included modeling and experimentally assessing high temperature gas-solid
reactions, aqueous and atmospheric corrosion, molten glass and molten
metal corrosion, and radiation effects on thin films and corrosion processes.
He has also engaged in a variety of materials processing activities
including development of oxide and carbide refractory materials, ceramic-intermetallic
composites, protective coatings, nuclear fuels, ceramic laminate fabrication,
ceramic-ceramic and ceramic-metal joining, and ion transport membranes
and microchannel device fabrication. His fundamental research has included
assessments of phase diagrams, development of laser diagnostics, surface
and thin film analysis, modeling of gaseous and solid state diffusion
processes, and texture-property relations.
