Summer 1999 Research Program:
Research Experiences for Undergraduates

Symposium on Advanced Materials
July 9, 1999

The US/France REU program in the Chemistry Department will be hosting a symposium on advanced materials on Friday July 9th. Several outstanding speakers have agreed to participate in the program and it should be an especially informative event. The schedule is as follows:
8:00 am Coffee and bagels
8:30 am Molecular Design of Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Nanocomposites Synthesized through Sol-Gel Chemistry, Clement Sanchez (Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris France).
9:30 am Structure of Amphiphilic Self-Assemblies, Martin In (Princeton/CNRS, Rhodia Complex Fluids Lab).
10:30 am break
10:45 am Synthesis and Processing of Nanostructured Composite Materials, Galen Stucky (University of California, Santa Barbara).
11:45 am Advanced Solid State NMR Applied to Solid State Chemistry and Material Sciences, Dominique Massiot (Directeur de Recherche au CNRS, Orleans France).

The symposium will be held in 309 Leigh Hall (on Buckman Drive, about 200 yds north of the Marston Science Library). All REU students are encouraged to attend!
