  • Seniors graduating in the Fall 2016 participating in research within the department are encouraged to submit a senior thesis. This allows seniors with a minimum major gpa of 3.50 to graduate with high or highest honors. In addition, the department offers the Outstanding Undergraduate Senior Thesis Award. Previous theses and award winners are found at http://www.phys.ufl.edu/academics/undergraduate/thesis/. Please email me by October 7 , if you are planning to submit a thesis. Also, when submitting a thesis, please download and use the cover sheet at: http://www.phys.ufl.edu/academics/downloads/physics-thesis-coverpage.pdf. The deadline for submitting the thesis to the department is November 29 and the presentations will be the last week of classes (exact date/time and place will be announced later). In addition, if you plan to submit a thesis then:

  • By December 7 a typed "Thesis Submission Form" which is available at: http://cms.uflib.ufl.edu/etd/honors must be submitted to Linda O’Donnell (Room 105, Farrior Hall) and
  •  
  • By December 21 students must upload their completed theses for electronic archiving to the honors department. For instructions about the upload process go to: http://cms.uflib.ufl.edu/etd/honors

  • Please email me (amlan@phys.ufl.edu) to register for PHY 4802L, PHY 4803L, and PHY 3840L. Mention your UFID and the expected semester of graduation. For PHY 4802L mention your section preference i.e. T,R periods 2-4 or T,R periods 5-7.

  • If you are conducting research in Spring 2016, please register for the course PHY 4911 by first discussing with your research advisor about the number of credits (zero to 3) you require for the course. Your advisor will then contact the department to enroll you in the course. Remember that you will not be able to register for this course on ISIS.

    Here are a few more points about this research course:

  • Faculty members who mentor undergraduate students should inform Cathy Knudsen (cathy@phys.ufl.edu) before the drop/add period of each semester.
  • If you miss the drop/add deadline, you can still register by getting departmental consent and filling out a schedule adjustment form: http://www.phys.ufl.edu/academics/undergraduate/schedule_adjustment_form.pdf
  • Once reported, the student will be enrolled in PHY4911 with 0 credit without additional tuition.
  • The number of credits can be increased up to 3 per semester but less than 12 in total for each student. The number of credits should be approved by the mentor. Any non-zero credit hours will cost additional tuition.
  • You will receive a letter grade for this course even if you are taking it for zero credits.
  • Physics will phase out the research credits for Individual Work PHY4905. Please do not register in PHY 4905 for research credits.
