EMU Data Quality Monitor Requirements

The EMU DQM mission is to provide a coherent suite of tools for online data quality monitoring of the CMS Endcap Muon System in two modes of datataking: Local EMU DAQ and Global CMS DAQ. In the latter case, the EMU DQM should be an integral part of the CMS-wide DQM.

The EMU system data readout is driven by about 600,000 channels of multi-bit information. The data are a product of intertwined operation of about 10 custom made boards, all of which must work according to specs and in nearly perfect sync with each other. The complexity is aggravated by the fact that the 600,000 channels are not uniform in nature of the data. The first preliminary estimate of the number of histograms and bins needed to monitor the quality of the EMU system data results in about 100,000 histograms of total more than 100,000,000 bins.
