Computing hardware.
To acquire data, the minimum system requirement is a 500MHz Pentium with
128MB RAM, a 4 GB system drive and at least 20GB for a data drive.  It is
best if the hardware will support 1024x1280 video resolution.  A tape drive
will be necessary for backups.

A second machine is necessary to run the high voltage control and monitoring
package.  This package is very memory-intensive and, although initially
well-behaved, can eventually interfere with data collection.  

Another machine can be used for database access.  Our machine is a 133MHz
Pentium with 64MB ram and a 2GB hard drive.



Software requirements.

The critical version numbers are:
    Linux RH6.2 with 2.2.19 kernel
    glibc at version 2.1.3-22
    ssh at version 2.9p2-1
    CERNLIB from year 2000

To get there, do these steps:

Use the RH6.2 distribution and upgrade it using the **upgrade6.2.html**
to 2.2.19.  

Upgrade all the packages mentioned under **upgrade6.2.html** according
to the instructions there.  These are important for system security.

Perform the steps under install_ssh2.html

Fetch the CERNLIB: *attached file.*
