Final Exam Grades: The grades for the Final Exam have been posted on the
PHY 2048 Sakai e-Learning WEBsite.
The average was 11.3 out of 20. One student received a perfect score of 20. Not enough students were able
to get 20 so we added one point to everyone’s score. The new average is 12.3 with eight students receiving 20.
The posted scores include the additional added point. The make-up grades are also included.
Congratulations to those who did well! The final course grades will be posted soon.

Additional Quiz Points (Qadd): The table below shows the average quiz score for
each of the PHY2048 TA's. It also shows the additional points per quiz that will
be added to the students of each TA to make the average quiz grades equal for all the TA's.
Your total additional quiz points, Qadd, is equal to the additional points per quiz times
the number of quizzes you took from that TA and is shown on the
PHY 2048 Sakai e-Learning WEBsite.

Normalization of the Quiz Scores: At the end of the semester we will compute the overall average quiz score for each of the PHY2048 TA's.
We will make no change to the quiz grades for those students in the classes of the TA with the highest average. We will add "bonus" quiz points to all
the other students in such a way as to make all the averages the same as the TA with the highest average. However, if doing so gives you
more than 15 points for your overall quiz grade, then you will only get the full 15 points.

Breakdown of Final Exam Problems: The PHY 2048 Final Exam is 12:30pm-2:30pm on Saturday December 13 (20 problems).

A table with the moments of inertia will also be included on the exam.
The final exam will have 5 problems from your previous two exams (Exam 1 and Exam 2) changed slightly but the same concept.
The answers to these problems may not be the exact same formula, but if you understand how to do your Exam 1 and Exam 2 problems you
will be able to do these problems. The final exam will also have 10 problems from the new material
(Chapters 12-17) and it will have 5 new cumulative problems (Chapters 1-11)
for a total of 20 problems as follows:

Cumulative Make-Up Exam: The PHY 2048 Make-Up Exam is 5:10pm-7:05pm on Wednesday December 10 in Room WM 100.
It is for anyone who had to miss an exam during the semester. You cannot take the make-up exam to improve a grade on a previous
exam. You have to have missed an exam with a valid reason. The breakdown of the questions on the cumulative make-up exam
is similar to the final exam.

and tell us which exam you are making up.

Last Day of Class: In class on Wednesday December 10 we will discuss the organization of the course and you will be asked
4 HITT questions about the course. If you come to class and answer the 4 questions you will
get 8 extra HITT points which should increase your overall HITT bonus points for the course. However, the maximum HITT bonus points
is still 5 points.

Estimated Course Grades: The estimated course grades (after two exams) are up on the
PHY 2048 Sakai e-Learning WEBsite.
Your Exam Points (max = 75) assumes that you get the same percentage grade on the Final Exam that you averaged on Exam 1 and Exam 2.
Your Quiz Points (max = 15 points) include the first 7 quizzes and
assumes that you get the same average on all your remaining quizzes that you have for the first 7 quizzes.
Your QxHW Points (max = 10 points) include the first 7 on-line homework assignments together with the first 7 quizzes
and assumes you get the same average on all your remaining QxHW scores. Your HITT Bonus points (max = 5 points)
are based on your HITT scores through 10/29/14 and assumes that you get the same average on all the remaining HITT questions.
Your Total Points (max = 100 points) are the sum of your Quiz Points, your QxHW Points,
your Exam Points, and your HITT Bonus points. If you have greater than 100 points, you were given
the maximum of 100 points. The grades are calculated according to the
grade formula.
Your overall Rank in the class and your raw HITT, and HW scores are also shown.

Exam 1 Options: Students who feel that evening exams at UF are not safe have two options.
Option 1: You can take a make-up exam similar to Exam 1 on Saturday morning September 27 from 8:00am to 10:00am in a
room in NPB. This make-up will be used as your Exam 1 score.
Option 2: You can take the cumulative make-up exam on Wednesday December 10 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in a room in NPB.
This make-up will be used as your Exam 1 score. These are your only two options. If you choose one of these options send
E-mail to phy2048@phys.ufl.edu and we will add you to the list.

Student Safety Concerns: Students scheduled for evening exams are encouraged to consider using UF's new
Walk Safe Student Escort Program, which aims to provide a secure way for
students to wait for a ride and walk to
and from their cars or between on-campus buildings after dark. Students interested in an on-campus escort between
7:30 pm and 3:00 am can call 392-SNAP. They will be asked to give their name, their pick-up location and their
destination, or indicate they are interested in having someone accompany them while they wait for other
transportation. The Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol will continue
to operate between 6:30pm-3:00am. Call
392-SNAP or download the SNAP safety application to arrange on-campus transportation.

Volume 1, 10th Edtion, by: Halliday, Resnick, and Walker.
You have two options. You can purchase a hardcopy of the textbook (with access to WileyPLUS)
at the bookstore or you can purchase the eBook (with access to WileyPLUS) on-line at Wiley for UF
(here).
In either case you must get the access to
the WileyPLUS on-line homework. The on-line Homework in this course is graded and will count
towards your final course grade.

Students with Disabilities: Students requesting classroom accommodation for disabilities must
first register with the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of Students Office will provide documentation
to the student who must then provide this documentation to the instructor (Field or Matcheva) when requesting accommodation.
Then you must print out the PHY2048 Accommodated Test Request (ATR) Form for Fall 2014
(click here for the form).
This form must be filled out by the student and returned to the Disability Reseource Center (DRC) at least
one week before the first exam. The Accommodated Testing Service (ATS) at DRC
will then administer all the exams.
