Oct. 24 Update to College Launchpad 2014 announcement: This is a followup to the post we made Sept. 27. Launchpad 2014 (launchpad2014.com) has been delayed to Jan. 17-18, 2015. Presumably, the organizers will update the website to reflect the new date.

Oct. 6 Exam 1 regraded: As we discussed in our email to the class today, problem 1 (involving the force between two spheres after touching another sphere) turned out not to have the correct answer listed, 5F/16. Accordingly, we regraded the exam this morning to allow any answer. This raises the average to 11.14 (including the two points we added). All exam scores were uploaded (including the two points) to Canvas and the exam histogram, exam key and solution were all modified.

If you already selected 5F/8 as the answer, your score will not change because that answer was considered correct previously. The change will affect about 1/3 of the class.

Oct. 1 Makeup exam today: Those of you for whom we agreed ahead of time to give a makeup should appear at Dr. Qiu's office (2039 Physics) several minutes before 5:00PM this afternoon. He is finding room with limited seating to have the exam.

Sep. 27 College Launchpad 2014 announcement: One of our phy2049 students is promoting College Launchpad 2014 (launchpad2014.com), particularly the event taking place over the weekend Nov. 8-9, 2014. It is described on the website as follows: "Launchpad is a hackathon about community --  the Southeast community to be exact. Hundreds of the regions talented developers, programmers, and designers will be pouring into Gainesville’s hallowed Stephen O’Connell Center for a weekend of creating and learning. Whether you’re a total Rockstar or complete noob, this event is a great place to meet inspiring people and hone your skills. Students work in teams of up to four for 24 hours to compete for a variety of prizes from our sponsors. "

Sep. 12 Students with disabilities: This information is also on the Overview page. Students requesting classroom accommodation for disabilities should print and fill out the Accommodated Test Request (ATR) Form (exam info already filled out), and return it to your instructors and the Disability Resource Center (DCR) at least one week before the first exam.
