PHY 2049 - Physics 2 with Calculus - Fall 2014

H-ITT and WileyPlus Registration

You must register on each system to get credit for your in class (H-ITT) responses and to use the WileyPlus online homework system.

H-ITT in-class quizzes

You can earn a maximum of 5 bonus percentage points toward your overall course grade by coming to class and answering question with your H-ITT remote transmitter. For each question, an incorrect response is worth 1 point, while a correct response is worth 2 points

There are two options now to record answers for in class questions using the H-ITT system. The traditional, and recommended, way is to purchase a supported remote "clicker" device. The other new approach is to enter your answer via a web browser on any smart device with an internet connection, provided you purchase a subscription to "SoftClick". More information is here.

H-ITT purchase: You can purchase the H-ITT remote at textbook stores. H-ITT questions begin to count on Thursday Sep. 4, but you should purchase your remote sooner for practice questions that will help you to become familiar with the system before the questions start counting for bonus points.

H-ITT registration and operation: To get H-ITT credit you must register your remote under your name at (do not use Safari for registering your remote)

http://www.phys.ufl.edu/~hitt/

and follow the instructions on that page. It is your responsibility to ensure that your remote is functioning properly and that you are sending on the correct channel (see web site above for link to instructions for setting the remote channel). It is recommended that you set the channel at the start of each lecture. Lights on the remote will indicate that your answer has been recorded on the system.

Once you are registered you will receive e-mails from us approximately once a week indicating your H-ITT scores. The RF channel number for the class is "07". If you are using "Softclick" to enter your responses, the two word random code you will also need will be provided on the screen projecting the H-ITT responses.

Very important: You can use your HITT transmitter in either period 6 or period 7, not both. Once you register for the period you want, your points will accumulate only for that period (just because your box shows on the screen doesn't mean that the points are assigned to your name). You will not get credit for points accumulated in the other period. The reason for this is that that the periods are graded independently: we use different questions and even different numbers of questions for each period.

WileyPlus online homework

Perform the following steps to register for the WileyPlus online homework system

  • Go to www.wileyplus.com

  • In the right hand column for Students, click on the green "Get Started" button Get started

  • Type in university of florida in the search field and select the correct entry

  • Select the correct course (Physics w Calculus 2) and click on the arrow

  • Log into your WileyPlus account or create a new account using your gatorlink@ufl.edu address

  • If you create a new account, click on the "I have a Registration Code" button and enter the WileyPlus access code that you purchased (alone or together with the hardcover or e-book)

  • You must enter your 8 digit UFID in the Student ID box. We will not count your homework if this information is not entered correctly because we have no other mechanism to identify you.

  • From now on, your user name is your email address (gatorlink@ufl.edu) and your student ID is your 8 digit UFID. You can login using the WileyPlus link.

Note that if you are not buying the bundled textbook and access code from a local bookstore, use the link here for UF pricing.

Do not delay logging-on/registering on the system. Not getting your homework in because you waited to the last minute and had trouble registering will not excuse you from the resulting zero on the homework assignment.
