Directions for Using the Wiley Plus Homework System
			PHY2049 Spring 2008

The homework system is easy to use and many of you have used it
previously for PHY2048; HOWEVER, PLEASE login in right away to
make sure your userid and password are correct. Also, in general
it is a good idea to not wait to the last minute to submit the
homework because there are network outages, computer viruses, etc.
No extensions are given for the homework. The first three
assignments covering the topics upto Exam 1 are online now.

Step 1: Log in to the system
Go to the web site:

	http://edugen.wiley.com/edugen/class/cls52316/

If you were preregistered for the class the Friday before classes
started when we downloaded the class roll, then you should have
received an e-mail with a subject like Welcome to Wiley Plus.
The email will contain a userid (like goofy@ufl.edu) and a
password, which is your gatorlink login followed by the last
two digits of your UFID (like goofy28). Click Go to Login.
You can and should change your password. Note also that the
Wiley Plus email with give you the new password (like goofy28)
- not necessarily the one you had last semester.

We had originally thought that when we put you in the homework
system for PHY2049, we would reset your PHY2048 password.
However, several students have reported being able to use their
PHY2048 password. In any case if you forget your password,
you can have the homework system e-mail you your password.

If you were not preregisted for the class, then you will have
to self register. Click Register. Please use your
UF email address (like goofy@ufl.edu) as your userid to avoid
confusion.

Step 2: Enter access code:
In either case you will next go to a screen with a user agreement,
which after you read and accept will take you the access code screen.

If you took the course last semester or in the summer when we
used the Wiley Plus system, then you can use this access code.
Indeed the computer may remember who you are and automatically
include your access code.

If you did not take PHY2048 either in the Fall or Spring
of last year, then you will need an access code. We strongly
recommend purchasing a book at one of the local book stores.
If you bring the book to class, we will enter an access code
in the book. This will be done at the end of every class
period. The books will be useful to have in class and
to study from. Please make sure you buy the 8th edition of
the book.

It is possible to buy just the access code, but as far as
we can tell the price of that is the same as purchasing
Parts 3 and 4 of the book.

Step 3: Do the homework
You should now be in the Wiley Plus system. Select Assignments,
and you will see the presently assigned homework assignments listed
as on the course web site, HW1, HW2, ... The due date and time is
clearly shown for each assignment.

If you select an individual assignment, like HW1, you will be brought
to a page which lists the individual problems. For HW1 there are 8
problems. This page also lists the settings, which should be the
same for each assignments. Specifically, you get up to 5 attempts
for each problem. After the second attempt you will get some hints
and links to the section in the book which covers this problem.
The numbers for your problem do not change with each attempt,
and an answer is counted as correct if it is within 2% of the exact
answer.

The solutions and answers are not shown until after the due date.
After the due date, you can not submit an answer, but you can look
at the problems, and the answers will appear on the problem. We
will also post solutions in the Read, Study, Practice section of the
Wiley Plus web site.

One nice feature is that at the bottom of the page there is a link
to print all the problems at once so you can work on them offline
and then enter your answers. This is the method which we recommend.

You can review your homework grades at any time by going to the
Gradebook section of the Wiley Plus. Your total score for each
assignment will be listed. You will be responsible for keeping
track of your homework+quiz grade, which is computed as described
in the syllabus.
