Announcements
May 1 |
Dear students: Your final exam scores, total HW+Quiz scores, HITT and HW13 bonus points are all posted on E-learning. Given a somewhat lower average, we decided to scale your final raw score by 10%---please use these scaled scores to figure out your letter grade, which will be uploaded to ISIS on Sunday. We wish you a great summer and all the very best in your future endeavors.

April 17 |
Today, you should have received an email with all your current HITT scores. If you have not, you have only a few days remaining to register your HITT remote control; the HITT registration web page will be closed on Wednesday night of April 23. Looking at the current summary of responces, we see that students owning the following remotes actively participate in the class, but have not registered their remotes (and hence we have no means to give you the well deserved credit): PERIOD 4: 635435, 659750; PERIOD 5: 644043, 662601, 670611. |
April 17 |
The review for the final exam will be given on Wednesday, April 23, as scheduled. Please note that it will be in Norman 137, not in the Physics auditorium, from 6:15 PM till 8:10 PM.
|
April 15 |
Final exam rooms: The final exam will be on Saturday, April 26, from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm. You have been assigned to a room according to the first letter, or first two letters, of your last name (family name), as follows.
Make-up exam: The make-up exam for those who missed one of the mid-term exams or cannot attend the final due to a legitimate excuse (and have already provided appropriate documentation) will be held on April 25, 10:00 am -- 12:00 pm in NPB. The room will be announced later once it is confirmed. Please send a message to phy2049@phys.ufl.edu to confirm that you intend to come and explicitly mention which exam you would be making up. If this time slot does not work for you, in exceptional cases we will try to accommodate you at a different time. |
March 29 |
HW6 Problem 4 bug: As some of you have noticed, WileyPLUS did not always accept correct answers for this problem, which had been taken from Chapter 28, Problem 33. WileyPLUS has finally fixed this bug, so that you can have your score for the problem corrected. If you have received a full point for this problem, you need to do nothing. But if you have not received a full point for this problem although you have entered correct answers, please go through the following steps to have your answers re-graded: in WileyPLUS, go to your Gradebook, click on "HW6 phys2048 Spring 2014", then click on any of your submitted QUESTION ATTEMPS for Q4. This will bring up the problem question window, from which you can initiate the re-grading.

March 27 |
The Exam 2 scores are posted on the e-learning system. The comment line on the right from your exam score shows which answers you picked for each question in reference to the master copy, which is also posted on the course web page (answer No.1 is the correct one). Solutions for each problem are posted as well. (Note: all students get the full credit for problem 10, regardless of their answer---the reason will be explained in the class.)
The average for this exam is 10.5. It is higher than Exam 1, but still disappointingly low! Note that ALL problems on this exam were taken directly either from your homework or from HITT quizzes or from the past exams.
Clearly, many students must put more effort in systematic studies in order to successfully pass the course.
Below are a couple of plots showing the exam 2 statistics. |
March 20 |

February 22 |
From now on, we will not distribute your exam sheets as we do not see how it can be done for a class of 600 students
without violating the new much tighter privacy protection regulations recently instated by the University.
Instead, we will use the course e-learning web page to post your answers on the exam questions. This has just been done for the recent Exam 1. Next to your exam score, you now should be able to see a comment with a string of 20 digits. These are your answers on the 20 exam problems as referenced to the master that you can download from the web page Exam Solutions (see the menu bar on the left). The answer no.1 is the correct answer. Example: A comment string 14-21 1111 25111 11121 means that a student:

The Exam 1 scores are posted on the e-learning system.
The average for this exam is 9.6. It is low! Note that 19 out of 20 problems on this exam were taken directly either from your homework or from HITT quizzes or from the past exams.
Please treat this as a wake-up call: clearly, many students must put more effort in studies and preparations in order to successfully pass the course.
