TEXTBOOK (pay close attention or it will cost you money)

The required text is Serway and Vuille, COLLEGE PHYSICS WITH WEBASSIGN, Publisher: CENGAGE Edition: 8TH VOL1, package ISBN: 0495760897 or 1-11-123288-1 (Note that these ISBN numbers are unique to the University of Florida; the package is sold only at local bookstores. The text includes a code used for the required on-line homework.)

There will also be an optional course packet, sold by the Society of Physics Students. This course packet contains photocopies of old Phy2053 exams and solutions. Many students find it to be a useful study guide. Another optional text is the student solution manual to accompany Serway and Faughn (ISBN: 0495556114; Student Solutions Manual & Study Guide For Serway and Vuille's Volume 1 College Physics) You can purchase the solution manual in any bookstore, not only the local ones. It contains solutions to some (not all) of the problems at the back of each chapter.


What do the instructors recommend? Because this is a foundational course for science and engineering, it is likely that you will find the hard copy text an important and useful reference for your future courses and in your career for many years to come. We therefore recommend purchasing the hardcopy text.
