We changed the minimum points necessary to pass the course from 60 to 57.5 to allow a few
more students to pass the course.

each of the PHY2053 TA's. It also shows the additional points per quiz that will
be added to the students of each TA to make the average quiz grades equal for all the TA's.
Your total additional quiz points, Qadd, is equal to the additional points per quiz times
the number of quizzes you took from that TA and is shown on the

Last Day of Class: In class on Tuesday April 22 we will discuss the organization of the course and you will be asked
4 HITT questions about the course. If you come to class and answer the 4 questions you will
get 8 extra HITT points which should increase your overall HITT bonus points for the course. However, the maximum HITT bonus points
is still 5 points.

Cumulative Make-Up Exam: The PHY 2053 Make-Up Exam is 5:10pm-7:00pm on Wednesday April 23 in Room 327 MAEA.
It is for anyone who had to miss an exam during the semester. You cannot take the make-up exam to improve a grade on a previous
exam. You have to have missed an exam with a valid reason. The breakdown of the questions on the cumulative make-up exam
is similar to the final exam and you are allowed two crib sheets.

and tell me which exam you are making up.

Breakdown of Final Exam Problems: The PHY2053 Final Exam will have 4 problems
from your Exam 1 (changed slightly but same concept) and 4 problems from your Exam 2
(changed slightly but same concept). The answers to these problems may not be the exact same formula,
but if you understand how to do your Exam 1 and Exam 2 problems you will be able to do these problems.
The final exam will also have 4 problems from the new material
(Chapter 11.1-12.8) and it will have 8 new cumulative problems (Chapter 1.1-10.8)
for a total of 20 problems as follows:

Estimated Course Grades: The estimated course grades (after two exams) are up on the
PHY 2053 e-Learning WEBsite.
Your Exam Points (max = 75) assumes that you get the same grade on he Final Exam that you averaged on Exam 1
and Exam 2. Your Quiz Points (max = 25 points) include the first 8 quizzes and
assumes that you get the same average on all your remaining quizzes that you have for the first 8 quizzes.
Your HITT Bonus points (max = 5 points) are based on your HITT scores through 3/27/14 and
assumes that you get the same average on all the remaining HITT questions.
Your Total Points (max = 100 points) are the sum of your Quiz Points, your Exam Points,
and your HITT Bonus points. If you have greater than 100 points, you were given the maximum of 100 points.
The grades are calculated according to the grade formula.
Your raw HITT and Quiz scores are also shown.

Remember this is only an estimate, if your performance level changes your grade will change accordingly!

Exam 2 Grades: The grades for Exam 2 have been posted on the
PHY 2053 e-Learning WEBsite.
The average was 10.1 out of 20, about the same as Exam 1. Therefore
we added 2 points to everyone's exam score. If your exam score was 18, 19, or 20
then you received a perfect score of 20. The new average is now 12.1 with eight students scoring 20 out of 20.
The posted grades include the added 2 points. Congratulations to those who did well! The new estimated
course grades will be available in a few days.

Normalization of the Quiz Scores: At the end of the semester we will compute the overall average quiz score for each of the PHY2053 TA's.
We will make no change to the quiz grades for those students in the classes of the TA with the highest average. We will add "bonus" quiz points to all
the other students in such a way as to make all the averages the same as the TA with the highest average. However, if doing so gives you
more than 25 points for your overall quiz grade, then you will only get the full 25 points.

The zero will be replaced by your score on the cumulative make-up exam. Hence, your estimated course grade is not accurate at this time.
When you take Exam 2 your estimated course grade will become more accurate.

The average was 9.7 out of 20. We did not intend for the average to be so low! Therefore

Students with Disabilities: Students requesting classroom accommodation for disabilities must
first register with the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of Students Office will provide documentation
to the student who must then provide this documentation to the instructor (Field or Qiu) when requesting accommodation.
Then you must print out the PHY2053 Accommodated Test Request (ATR) Form for Spring 2014
(click here for the form).
This form must be filled out by the student and returned to the Disability Reseource Center (DRC) at least
one week before the first exam. The Accommodated Testing Service (ATS) at DRC
will then administer all the exams.
