Announcements:

December 16, 2009

The final exam had an average of 6.86 and a standard deviation of 2.72.  The master copy of the exam ican be found by clicking here.  The first answer is the correct answer.

I didn't think that the exam was that hard.  It did not ask for anything that you didn't know or hadn't answered in past correctly.  So the very low final score was a surprise.  We have two promises to keep.  As it says in the syllabus: Half of the class will get a B or better and  15% will have an A.  We are well on our way towards meeting these promises.

The other scores including the clicker and the discussion section scores will be avilable soon on e-learning.

December 10, 2009

The final exam is on Saturday December 12, 2009 at 8PM.  See below for the room to go to for the exam.  You are welcome to bring a calculator, a few sharpened #2 pencils (and erasor) and two formula sheets.  You are also expected to bring your UF ID.   Good luck.

slightly different numbers.  The correct answer for each problem is the first answer listed there.

and a standard deviation of  2.67.

November 3, 2009

In the sample practice exams, the first answer is the correct answer.  There is an exception:

Problem 4 in exam 2 from Fall 07, the correct answer should be IBL2.  Please make the change.

Professor Takano will have extra office hours this week, Wednesday (Oct. 28) and Friday (Oct. 30), both during the 6th period (12:50 pm - 1:40 pm).  I will have no office hours next week.

Note some corrections to the book
:
In the first sentence of the third paragraph of page 676, the word
"induction" should be "magnetization".

In the first sentence in the next paragraph on the same page, the words
"and motors" should be deleted, to avoid confusing the students. There are
indeed some motors that rely on induction, called induction motors, but
the only motors described in the book are those that rely on a torque
on a loop through which current fed from outside flows.

October 8 ,2009

Exam I  scores are now posted on e-learning.  The class average was a steaming 11.4/15.  The standard deviation was 2.49.  Some of you might still not find your scores.

This is because e-learning keeps records by your gatorlink username.  I get your gatorlink username by stripping off  @ufl.edu from your email ddress.  If your email address is different from gatorlink (.....@ufl.edu)  I did not have yoru gatorlink username and  your scores had to be entered by hand.  In several cases, but perhaps not all, the scores have been so entered.  If you are still missing your scores, let me know.

Finally,  several clickers are still not registered.  They should be ASAP, or else....

October 5, 2009

The exam score posting is turning out to be more time consuming than we had anticipated.  There is good news here and there is bad news too.   The bad news is the time it has already taken and may yet take.  The good news is that once it is setup, it will be a breeze in future to post the scores and grades.  Stay tuned.

September 30, 2009

The master exam, which contains the correct answer as the first answer, can be seen by clicking here.  In problem 13, which calculates the ratio of Cp/Cs, with the capacitances 2, 3  and 5 \micro F, we have accepted  two answers, 9.3 and 11.0 as correct since they were too close to each other.  The correct answer is 10.3.
