PHY 2054 - Physics II - Fall 2012

STUDENT RESPONSE SYSTEM (H-ITT)

H-ITT points: You can earn a maximum of 5 bonus points toward your overall course grade by coming to class and answering question with your H-ITT remote transmitter. For each question, an incorrect response is worth 1 point, while a correct response is worth 3 points.

Participating in the H-ITT in-class questions is optional. You can earn a perfect grade in the course (i.e. 100 points) without the H-ITT bonus points. To provide a measure of forgiveness for unavoidable missed classes and for problems with the H-ITT transmitter, 20% of the H-ITT points will be dropped in evaluating your bonus points. The overall grade formula (PDF) shows how to calculate your H-ITT points.

H-ITT purchase: You can purchase the H-ITT remote at textbook stores. H-ITT questions begin to count on Tuesday September 4, 2012, but you should purchase your remote sooner for practice questions that will help you to become familiar with the system before the questions start counting for bonus points.

H-ITT registration and operation: To get H-ITT credit you must register your remote under your name at http://www.phys.ufl.edu/~hitt/ at your earliest opportunity and follow the instructions on that page. It is your responsibility to ensure that your remote is functioning properly and that you are sending on the correct channel (see web site above for link to instructions for setting the remote channel). It is recommended that you set the channel at the start of each lecture. Lights on the remote will indicate that your answer has been recorded on the system.

You can only use your HITT transmitter in either period 2 or period 3. Once you register for the period you want, your points will accumulate only for that period (just because your box shows on the screen doesn't mean that the points are assigned to your name). You will not get credit for points accumulated in the other period. The reason for this is that that the periods are graded independently: we use different questions and even different numbers of questions for each period.
