WebAssign: We use the WebAssign homework system, a commercial product linked to our textbook. The questions are taken from the end of chapter problems, but the numbers are "personalized" so each student gets different numbers for the same question. You get free access for a couple of weeks, after which you must type in an access code from a purchased license.

Login: Your login name is your 8-digit UFID (no dash), including leading zeros, e.g. 00564567. Do not use your GatorLink name! The institution is ufl. Your password is also the UFID, but you should change it after your first login. Two comments:

  • If you had a previous WebAssign account with under your Gatorlink name, it will not work in this course.
  • If you had a previous WebAssign account with username = UFID, it will be valid in this course, with the same password as last semester. You still need to purchase a valid WebAssign license.
  • We have set up a practice assignment from Chapter 15 that you can work on immediately. It is not counted in the final score.

Due date: Homeworks are due at 11:59 pm on the date shown. No exceptions allowed. Most answers are numerical, and need to be within a certain tolerance (currently set to 2%) of the correct answer. You get instant feedback as to whether the answer is correct or not. You may have up to 10 attempts at getting the answer. Since the WebAssign server might have problems occasionally, be sure to start the assignments early and turn in answers steadily, rather than all on the last day. Because you have two weeks to work on each assignment, no credit or extensions will be given.

Questions about WebAssign should be addressed to Dr. Kumar and copied to Dr. Avery. Do not send mail to just one of us. All e-mail must have 2054 somewhere in the subject line.

Advice:Homework is a rewarding activity for those who work at it. We encourage students to talk to one another about the problems, but you must enter the answers yourself. It is extremely important to work out how an answer was obtained, because that is the key for doing well on the exams and quizzes where the vast majority of the points are earned.
