Date Announcement
Apr. 22 Room assignments for final exam: The exam will take place Saturday, April 28, from 10:00AM-12:00PM. Students are assigned to five rooms based on the first initial of your last (family) name. For security reasons you must take the exam in the room to which you are assigned.

Apr. 17 Updated office hours: Profs. Avery and Kumar will have updated office hours next week, as well as some afternoons this week. Please see the office hours page for updates.
Apr. 5 WebAssign error: Problem 23.18 (prism) had a bug that made it insoluble. We have contacted WebAssignabout the issue. In the meantime, we will either give everyone credit for the problem if they attempted it or else eliminate it from scoring.

Final exam: The final exam will have 20 questions and be worth 25 points. The coverage will be as follows: 50% from the old material and 50% from the material after exam 2. For the 10 questions from the old material, we will take questions from (1) Exam 1 and Exam 2, (2) homework problems and (3) the HITT questions. However, the numbers in the problem will be different and the quantity requested might also be different.

Mar. 12 Room assignments for exam 2: The exam will take place Wednesday, March 21, from 8:20-10:20PM. Students are assigned to four rooms based on the first initial of your last (family) name. For security reasons you must take the exam in the room to which you are assigned.

Feb. 28 HITT remote registration: Many HITT remotes are still not registered. The accumulated points on these remotes are therefore not associated with any names. Please see the email sent from Sakai listing the remote IDs that have not been registered yet.
Feb. 14 Parking during exam 1: The Drake concert at 7PM Wednesday will likely cause significant parking issues on campus before the exam. Be sure to be on campus early or get dropped off by somebody.
Feb. 13 Extended office hours: Prof. Avery will have open office hours all day Tuesday, aside from 1:00-2:15, and all day Wednesday starting around 10:30AM.

Tea and cookies at 5:00PM Tuesday (today).

Room assignments for exam 1: The exam will take place Wednesday night, from 8:20-10:20. Students are assigned to six rooms based on the first initial of your last (family) name. For security reasons you must take the exam in the room to which you are assigned.

Jan. 22 Homework 1 and 2 due dates extended: Because of the continuing delays in textbook acquisitions at the bookstore, we have decided to extend the deadlines till Wednesday, Jan. 25 (Homework 1) and Saturday, Jan. 28 (Homework 2). We apologize to students who turned in their work well before these dates, but the delays at the bookstores gave us few choices.
Jan. 20 HITT points and registration: Please register your remote on the HITT page. There are still over 40 students with unregistered transmitters. Once you provide your UFID and transmitter ID (6 digts on the back of your transmitter), the software will link your name to the transmitter and the points you accumulate will be assigned to your name. Otherwise, the points accumulate but we have no way to assign them to you.

Also, you can only use your HITT transmitter in one class period. Once you register for the period you want, your points will accumulate only for that period (just because your box shows on the screen doesn't mean that the points are assigned to your name). You will not get credit for points accumulated in the other period. The reason for this is that that the periods are graded independently: we use different questions and even different numbers of questions for each period.
Jan. 18 WebAssign password: You can set your password yourself in WebAssign even if you cannot get in. First, try to login to WebAssign using your GatorLink name and UFID as your password (or another password that you already had switched to). If that doesn't work, click on the link "Reset Password" just above the password box and WebAssign will mail instructions to your ufl.edu account on how to change your password. Note that we have set all email addresses in WebAssign to ufl.edu addresses and eliminated any commercial email addresses.

Please email us about WebAssign problems only after you have tried this procedure, or you do not see phy2054 once you are logged into WebAssign or you are having other troubles.
Jan. 13 WebAssign Homework 1: Because of unexpected PHY2054 textbook delays at the bookstores, we are extending the due date for WebAssign homework 1. It is now due 11PM Saturday, Jan. 21. Other homework dates are not affected.
Jan. 11 WebAssign update: Some students do not have email addresses registered in WebAssign, which is why they did not get emails from the WebAssign system when they were registered. Please make sure that your email address is in the WebAssign system. We also removed about 10 duplicate accounts. You must use your GatorLink name when you login to WebAssign.
Jan. 10 Students with Disabilities: Students requesting classroom accommodation for disabilities must first register with the Dean of Students Office. That office will provide you with documentation that you will provide to the instructor at the beginning of the semester. Please print and fill out the Accommodated Test Request (ATR) Form, and return it to the Disability Resource Center (DCR) at least one week before the first exam. The Accommodated Testing Service (ATS) at DCR will administer all exams.
Jan. 10 PHY2054 Tea and Cookies Session: Starting Tuesday, January 17 Prof. Kumar or Prof. Avery will host a "tea and cookie" session every Tuesday at 5:00pm in 2165 NPB. Join them for tea, cookies, and help with the physics problems.
Jan. 10 Lectures start Tuesday January 10 (period 4 & 5) in Physics 1001. The class schedule shows the lecture schedule, exam dates, and on-line homework due dates.
Discussion sections start Wednesday January 11.
Quizzes begin in the discussion sections Monday January 23.
