CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Classes start May 15. Welcome!

16 May - Labs [PHY2054L]   will meet this week for orientation.
Also, recitation sections will meet this week.

17 May - WebAssign is up and running.  Please follow the instructions on our WebAssign page carefully, especially the Login directions.
If you didn't purchase WebAssign with your textbook it may be obtained online from the WebAssign homepage.

18 May - Previous WebAssign login instructions contained a small [but crucial!] error.  If you've had difficulties logging in, please reload the WebAssign page and follow the revised login directions.
Let me know if you still have problems.

19 May -  A few tips on WebAssign if you're having troubles logging in:
                1. You need an access code for this term / this textbook---last term's
won't work.  A new one can be purchased on-line.
                2.
Remember: computers don't necessarily do what you want 'em to to do;
they only do what you instruct them to do!  Follow login, password, etc.
                     instructions exactly!

01 June -
1. S&F problem solutions  for Chapters 15 & 16 are now available online--click on  'Homework Solutions' in the menu.
2.  S&F PowerPoint lecture notes for all chapters can be found under  'Serway PPT notes'.
3.  Click on Practice Exams  to obtain downloadable exam copies from a few years ago.  Most questions are similar to what you may expect on our exams.  If time permits, I'll put up solutions to the hard ones late this weekend.

05 June -
1.  Problem solutions  for Chapters 15, 16 & 17 are now online.
--->REMINDER:  EXAM 1 (Chapters 15-17) is Tuesday 06 June,  7 - 9 PM in NPB 1001. Bring your notes (1page!), calculator and scratch paper.

09 June -  Exam 1 scores are now posted on your WebAssign pages.  Solutions for Exam 1 questions will be posted  in another day or so.

12 June -  Exam 1 solutions in brief form are posted on the 'Exam Results' page.

13 June -  Today's lecture is cancelled as are all other UF classes due to Tropical Storm Alberto.   We cannot afford to eliminate important course material so be prepared for a few full class period lectures as we play catch-up!

14 June-  I will be away for the next week.  Mr. Patrick Hearin has kindly agreed to take the next two lectures.  Please show him your usual courtesy as he tries to help us get back on schedule.  Since it's unlikely that we can finish Chapter 19 [one of the longer ones!] this week,  the WebAssign deadline has been extended to Wednesday 21 June.

30 June-    Exam 1  may be picked up in NPB 1100 [gray file cabinet in rear of room].    Chapter 19 solutions are now on-line; apologies for the delay in posting them!

07 July-  Exam 2  (Chapters 18 - 21) is Tuesday 11 July, 7 - 9 PM in NPB 1001.  Bring your brain, 1 page of notes, calculator, and scratch paper!
    A review for Exam 2
is posted under 'Exam Info' on our home page.
If in doubt about material, a problem, etc., ask!

08 July-  A couple of errors in the Exam 2 review  have now been corrected.

16 July -  Exam 2 results are now on your Web Assign pages.  Brief solutions will shortly be available on the "Exam Info" page.

18 July- Note: Exams 1 & 2 class averages appearing on the WebAssign page are incorrectly low.  WebAssign calculates these averages automatically but  includes zero scores for those who missed the exam.  Correct  averages appear on the 'Exam Info' page.

21 July-   In respose to numerous requests, steps for very roughly guesstimating your final grade are accessible through the 'Exam Info' page.  Use these with caution!

24 July- The make-up exam, for those who are eligible, will be scheduled for next week  at a time convenient for all.  This is a 20-question exam covering the material of chapters 17 - 23.  I suggest  3 - 5 PM on either Tuesday 01 August or Wednesday 02 August but I can flex on this.  Please let me know ASAP if these times will not fit your schedule and suggest some reasonable alternatives.

30 July-  The Make-Up Exam is scheduled for Tuesday 01 August , 3 - 5 PM in NPB 1100.  Please  bring scratch paper and calculator.  Since this is a comprehensive exam [Chapters 15 - 23] you may bring two pages of notes.

07 August -  The Final Exam is Thursday, 10 August and covers Chapters 22 - 25,  as advertised in the Syllabus.  This is an in-class exam so there are 15 questions.  There appears to be no class after ours so you will have until 1:50 PM to complete it.  You are allowed the usual: 1 standard-size page of notes and calculator.  Please bring your own scratch paper.  Best wishes!

08 August - A brief, 'hit the high spots' review of  final exam material is posted under 'Exam Info'  on our Home Page.
--> If you are in doubt or have questions about any of this material, ASK!!!

13-14 August -  Final Exam scores [the average was 8.6]  are posted on the WebAssign page.  Efforts to post grades there failed.  See the Exam Info page for directions for calculating your grade.  Grades have been submitted to the Registrar so yours should now be obtainable from ISIS.
Best wishes to you all.
