PHY2054 - Summer, 2008

Calculating [and finding out!] your grade

First, review the "Exams and Grading" section of the course syllabus to remind yourself of the weighting  of each component.   Note that test/exam scores have to be normalized for the 120-point (max) grading scale that we are using.  Here's how to do it:

1.  Add  your Exams 1 & 2 scores (20 points, max, each) and multiply the result by 1.25.  This normalizes the total to the  120-point grading basis.

3.  Multiply your final exam score (16 points, max) by 1.56 to normalize it to 25 points, max.     Add this to the above

4.  Add your quiz/'clicker'/h-itt score (maximum 5 points).  This was obtained by dropping your 4 lowest-scoring questions,  totalling the result (60 points, max), and multiplying your 'percentage correct'  by 5.  (See the email sent to you on 0807).

5.  Add your discussion/recitation score (maximum 25 points).  [I  don't publish these;  see your instructor]

5.  Add your WebAssign score (maximum 15 points),  based on your best 9 out of the total of 11 assignments.  Score = (Best 9 total)/8.9 .

9.  The result should be a number less than 120.  This is your final  score.

Letter Grades  were assigned according to the 'curve'  which is very similar to that appearing in the original Syllabus.....read on!

HOWEVER,  WebAssign's idiosyncracies**  appear to preclude posting anything but numbers (no letter grades) , so I've posted your Final [Total] Score.  Please look up your grade from the 'curve' below.

**[Maybe  my  idiosyncracy  is being unable to find, anywhere in WebAssign's  334-page 'manual' , any mention whatever of posting letter grades!]
