PHY2054 Summer 2008  -   Review for Exam 2 [Chapters 18 - 21]

 

Pertinent equations are cited by number , with the more important ones *starred*. Those in (parentheses) are variations that are potentially useful but less basic.  
The conceptual questions at the end of each chapter are good review material.  
Reviewing your WebAssign work is also recommended.

 

Ch. 18.  Omit Sects. 6, 7, 8.  There will be no complex Kirchhoff's Rules questions on the exam.  Equations:  4*, 6*, 7,  8,  9*.  Problems 48 and 50 are typical.

 

Ch. 19.  Omit Sect. 10.  Low emphasis on Sects. 1 & 2.  Equations: 1* (2, 3, 4), 6*, 7, 8*(9), 10*, 11*, 14*, 16*.   Be sure that you can correctly apply the right hand rule in a variety of situations.  See the 'Review Problems' in the Lecture Schedule.

 

Ch. 20.  Equations: 1*, 2*, 3*, 4*, 5, 7, 9*, 10*, 13*,[ with the associated equation for current  in an LR circuit (footnote, p. 680)], 14*, 15*.

Ch. 21.  No questions on this exam from Sections 8 - end.   Low emphasis on Sects. 2 & 3. 
Equations: 1, 2*, 3*, 4*, 5, 8, 19*, 22*, 23*.
Problems  9, 11, 15, 17,  and 39  give additional  review/practice.
