Announcements

Comments, notes  and updates appear here as needed.

Please check this page at least twice a week.

ĢIt's a good idea to upload these pages again every couple of weeks, to make sure that you don't miss menu revisions.

08 August - Final Exam Scores and Final (total) Scores are now posted on WebAssign.   WebAssign will not accept letter grades — only numerical scores!!.  [I'm underwhelmed!]  You can figure out your grade from the grade calculation info that is posted HERE , along with letter-grade ranges.
Enjoy your break — y'all were a great class.
My best wishes for Fall.

07 August - The Final Exam
has been scored. Class average was  9.8/15.  I had expected something closer to 11 but still, not bad for a high-pressure week with finals taken in shorter times!
Processing of your scoring data is essentially complete;  the awarding of  'minus' grades is under consideration.  Check here at noon Saturday for info re: grade posting.

04 August -
It's been pointed out that a number of old regular-term PHY2054 exams with solutions are on-line at   http://www.phys.ufl.edu/courses/phy2054/s09/sample_exams_2054.shtml .
Fell free to use these if they are helpful.

03 August -
A few Review Problems are now listed in the on-line lecture schedule;  these should have appeared sooner [apologies!].  Parts of these are similar to questions that might appear on the final exam.

31 July -
Chapter sections and equations that are likely to be emphasized on the final exam are reviewed HERE.
To best use the review hour on Tuesday, please email me the numbers of the sections you'd like explained and/or problems you'd like to see worked out so I don't waste your time shuffling through the text or old exams.

30 July- Final exam info:
The exam is one week from today [Thursday 6 August], in-class. There are 15 questions: Ch. 21- 2; Ch. 22- 2; Ch. 23- 5; Ch. 24- 3; Ch. 25- 3.
If the previous class clears out in time, exam starts at 12:25.
Exam ends at 1:50, sharp.
Bring scratch paper, calculator, 1 page of notes, & brain.

25 July-
There was an error on yesterday's  h-itt report : correct answer to  question 4, quiz 13 is 'B' not 'C' . This has been fixed.  A new emailing will go out after next Tuesday's lecture.

11 July -
In reponse to several inquiries, a final-grade 'guesstimator' is available.  Read carefully, especially the caveats, and use it with caution — no guarantees! Click here to access.

09 July-
Exam 2 scores are posted on your WebAssign pages.
Exam 2 solutions are posted on the 'Solutions' page or Click Here.

6 July -
Exam 2 questions:  Ch. 18 - 6; Ch. 19 - 5; Ch. 20 - 7; Ch. 21 - 2.
Also, two errors on the online  practice exam answers have been noted (Apologies!; thanks to those who found them): The correct answer to #3 is 2.5 A and for  #7, correct answer is  "down, into the page".

4 July - Happy Independence Day!
Click Here for an Exam 2 Review.

30 June - Chapter 21 coverage notes:
As indicated in the syllabus, Exam 2 will cover material only through section 21.7.  A  20-question exam that covers 3.5 chapters cannot have a query from every section.   The assigned homework questions are a good guide as to what may be expected..In summary, the following equations may  be required for an Exam 2 question: 21.2, 21.3, 21.4, 21.5, 21.6, 21.8, 21.9, 21.13, 21.14, 21.19, 21.22.

20 June -  WebAssignments
and recommended homework are now posted.

13 June - Finally posted (!): Exam 1 Solutions(click here) .

04 June - Correct  Exam 1 scores are now posted!
There was a glitch in uploading the initial file to WebAssign. Some of you got no scores or incorrect ones.  This has now been fixed.

03 June - Exam 1 scores are posted
on your WebAssign page under 'Exam'.  The class average was 12.6 — congratulations for doing well on a moderately tough exam!
Don't slack off in your work.....
many of you will find the upcoming material to be somewhat more challenging.

I will be away until Monday;  not available after Thursday's lecture, so:
(1) Please hold your emails until Monday;
(2) Exam 1 solutions will probably not be posted until next week.

01 June -

25 May -  Solutions to Chapters 15 and 16
end-of-chapter questions  are now available — click on 'Homework Solutions' in the Index.
Your h-itt 'clicker' scores will be emailed  mid-afternoon tomorrow (Tuesday).  Be sure that your remote ('clicker') is registered:  if you haven't received an email by 5 PM Tuesday 26 May, let me know.

19 May -  hitt ("clicker") questions
today are practice only.  Thursday and thereafter will count!!
All those registered
in our hitt  roster should receive an email from me by 5 PM today.  If you do not receive this email message, please check your hitt registration.  Answers are recorded for all clickers that show up on the screen, but they can't be credited to you until properly registered.

The online 'Serway PPT' files  are from an older edition but they are essentially the same as those in the current text.

13 May -
OK, most items on our Webpages are complete, except for TA office hours which will be posted later this week.
The WebAssign roster has been uploaded, so y'all should be able to start on the WebWork.  Do let me know if you have difficulties  [with logging on, not with working the problems!!]
Note to Previous WebAssign users: please follow the logging-in directions on our WebAssign page; your previous password (if you changed it) will probably not work.

07 May -  Welcome, all,  to the course.

A few items on this website are still under construction:
Homework  assignments,  WebAssign rolls , TA office hours & section assignments will be posted here early in the first week of classes.
Due to a textbook edition update,  renumbering of problem/homework assignments is necessary.  Assignments for the first couple of weeks are listed but the remainder won't be completed for another week or so.

Registering for this class:  If you are having difficulty trying to register for this class, I'm quite sympathetic but there is absolutely nothng I can do to  bypass or expedite the process.
