08 August - Final (total) scores are posted on your WebAssign pages. WebAssign won't post letter grades, only numbers, so CLICK HERE for the final score calculations and the letter-grade scale. Best wishes to all of you.
05 August - Final Exam Scores are posted on your WebAssign pages. We dropped one question so the maximum possible score is 15. The class average was 9.25 which is pretty good for a tough exam. Final Grades
will be posted on the WebAssign page as soon as totals can be
calculated and double-checked, probably Sunday afternoon, but earlier
is possible — check here for announcements.
03 August - Try
again on the 0810 exam solutions (below) — it should work now;
[as you all know, @=#$%+&*~ computers don't always do what we want 'em to do: they do exactly what we tell them to do!] 02 August - Click Here for solutions to Final Exam of 0810 (last exam in the red Sample Exams book).
02 August - My office hours this week: T: 9 - 11 , 1 - 2 ; W: 12 - 2 . Thursday's Final Exam
will begin at 12:25 if we can get the previous class out in time.
Please wait for them to clear out before entering the room.
Our exam will run until 1:55 PM — we must stop in time for
those with 2 PM exams to be out & on their way. For a Final Exam Review, Click Here . Final Exam questions, by Chapter: 21- 2; 22- 3; 23 - 4; 24 - 4; 25 - 3 .
25 July - The Make-Up Exam is scheduled this Thursday 28 July, 4 - 6 PM. Those with permission to take it should have been contacted. If not, email me immediately.
21 July - Are you planning to take the Make-Up Exam??? If so, I must hear from you by 5 PM Friday 22 July with the info requested below (19 July Announcement) ! !
19 July - (1) The make-up exam is next week. Those with permission to
take it , email me your 2- hour open time slots, 8AM - 6
PM,
for Tuesday - Friday (July 26-29), ASAP so we can set a time.
(2) Responding to numerous queries, click here for a way to 'guesstimate' your final grade. No guarantees, FYI only!!
(3) The Webassign week 9 total is being fixed today.
17 July - Week 9 WebAssign total is 16, NOT 17! This total came from last year's template with a different problem set . It will be corrected, shortly.
14 July - Click Here for corrected Exam 2 solutions. Exam 2 scores have been re-posted with corrections. All scores should now be viewable; let me know if yours is missing.
13 July - Exam 2 scores are now posted
on your WebAssign pages. Let me know ASAP if your score is
missing (provided you took the exam!), as a few Exam 1 scores failed to
post correctly for unknown reasons. Class average was a very respectable 60% [10.8/18]. We had to throw out two questions; Click Here for Exam 2 solutions and an explanation re: the discards.
11 July - Today's (Monday) office hours: 3 - 5 PM . In view of tonight's exam, WebAssign, chapter 22 deadline is extended to Tuesday night.
08 July - Today's [Friday] office hours: 0930 - 1230
05 July - If your WebAssign access was suddenly 'restricted' here's why: Stricter enforcement of privacy laws required WebAssign to tighten account access requirements. Apparently some of you (for convenience) linked your PHY2054 username to a previous one. The tighter rules won't permit this. For Phy2054 Webassign you MUST now employ the username originally assigned (your UF ID).
16 June - For an Exam 2 review Sheet, Click Here.
14 June - It's been pointed out to me that in the Sample Exam Booklet, the solutions to my June 2002 exam is a duplicate of the one for June 2010. Clearly, this was an error! Click Here for the correct solutions to the 6/02 exam.
12 June - Your h-itt (in-lecture-quiz) scores through June 9th were emailed on that date. If you did not receive that email, yours is probably one of the 4 still-unidentified [unregistered] remotes on the roster. Remotes have to be registered on-line with h-itt so that your name and UF ID are correlated with the remote ID. If you want the credit, you must register yours this week: go to our h-itt web page and follow the registration instuctions.
09 June - Exam 1 Solutions are now posted to a link on the <Homework Solutions> page.
07 June - Exam 1 Scores on Webassign have moved to column 4 (between weeks 3 & 4) and the basis corrected to 19 points. • • • • Some of you report inability to view the exam score. If so, clicking on <Past Assignments> or <All Assignments> should fix the problem.• • • •
06 June - (8 PM) Exam 1 scores are now on your WebAssign pages. Due to a regrettable series of computer glitches, scores had to be emailed late today to Webassign for uploading. My apologies for the delay!
Y'all
did well on this moderately difficult exam: class average was 11.7/19.
Congratulations! We threw out a question that was inadvertently based on Chapter
18. This exam will therefore be normalized from 19 —> 25 points when final scores are calculated (See the <Grading> section of the Syllabus).
It's
extremely perilous to talk about letter grades based on ~20% of
the data (i.e., this one exam). But in response to repeated
inquiries, etc., etc., .........: your Exam 1 score x 6, compared
with the 'curve' in the <Grading> section of the Syllabus will give you a very rough idea of your standing in the class.
04 June - Exam 1 has
been scored. There were a couple of irregularities that have to
be resolved before results are made available, probably Monday morning.
As soon as this is done, it will be announced here and your score
will be entered on your WebAssign page.
WebAssignment deadline is Sunday 05 June....... Don't forget.
Have a good weekend!
02 June- Exam tonight, 7 PM! Check the syllabus for your location and what to bring. The old exam/solution book ($20) is now available at Target Copy.
31 May- Click Here for a review sheet for Exam 1. As announced in lecture, the Exam booklet is supposedly 'in press'. Stay tuned for the announcement of availability. 24 May - Updates: 1. End-of-chapter question/problem solutions are now available [posted weekly after the WebAssign due date] on these pages: click on <Homework Solutions> at left. 2. H-ITT: your in-class 'clicker quiz' scores were emailed Thursday, 19 May. If you didn't receive this info, let me know and include your remote ('clicker') ID. 3. Exam dates and loci have now been posted on the <Lectures> and <Syllabus> pages. 4. Practice Exams [index at left] should now be accessible; let me know if not. Also, a print-out of old exams from previous terms should be ready in a few days. Availabilty will be announced in lecture and on these pages.
16 May - Webassign (continued!): I hear from several that they can't access WebAssign, or that it refuses to recognize them. In almost every case, the glitch is due to not following the login directions on our WebAssign page. Read the instructions!!!!!!!! If you follow them exactly [do it twice!] & still have trouble, call the WebAssign 800 help number.
11 May - Re:
WebAssign - (1) If you purchased unlimited access to WebAssign or bought
it for both semesters with your text, you're covered for this course.
The WebAssign page info has been modified to include these
possibilities. (2)
If WebAssign refuses to recognize you and grant access, it may be due
to your having registered after our WA roster was uploaded. Let
me know ASAP if you have this problem.
09 May - The
Summer term begins today, whether you & I are ready for it or not!!
Please check your preparations for this course: do you have the
textbook, a WebAssign account, and the PRS (h-itt) device? See you in lecture tomorrow — best wishes!
Welcome
to the course, especially you early birds who are reading this a week
or more before classes begin. Feel free to email me if you have
questions, except on matters concerning: Registering
for this class:
If you have difficulties in trying to
register for this course, I'm quite sympathetic — been there, done that! BUT, I'm not
involved in registration matters, so there's absolutely
nothing I can do to bypass or expedite any part of the process. Sorry!
