PHY 2054 - Physics II - Summer C 2012

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Date Announcement
August10  In the gradebook2 of e-Learning we have posted the scores from the final exam.  The average was 12.78 and a standard deviation of 2.42.  The makeup exam grades are also posted.

The quiz grades as posted are unprocessed.  In the column "final quiz" we have posted your quiz grades (max 20) after they have been adjusted for TA average variation and a 10 % drop (we implement that by dividing your score by 0.9 but keep it below 20).   This will be added  to other components to determine your final grade.

The homework has also been boosted by dividing by 0.9 and getting an number out of 20.  Thus all components of the grade are now posted on gradebook 2, except HITT which must be done from my office.  I have submitted tentative grades; the final tally will be adjusted  Monday morning.
August 9 The final exam  is today between 12:30-2:00PM in the lecture auditorium.  You know the rules of the game.
  • You are  allowed a two page formula sheet, pencils and erasers.
  • No hats and no comuncation devices.
  • Please leave a seat empty on your left and right, for me to sit when I come to visit you.
  • There is a note (if you need one, click here) informing that the exam will go on until 2PM.

June 14
I am concerned about the schedule for the home work.  The material is covered in class and discussions but the homework is not assigned (and/or due) until much later.  I  have made the following changes.
  • Homework set 6 is now due June 25.  Ofcourse that date is in the middle of the summer break but many of you have already tried several of those problems so it shouldn't be a severe hardship to do it in advance of the due date and enjoy your summer break.
  • HW 7 is due on July 2.  That was a harder call since you are just back from summer break but I don't have too much flexibility.  Again you could do this set too before leaving for the summer break and not wait until the due date.
  • Finally this allows us to squeeze in two more homework sets, HW-10 and HW-11.  They were setup as suggested problems but we can bring them into our regular schedule.
The following clicker numbers are unregistered so far.  After next week all records for these numbers will be tossed.  Please register these numbers ASAP.
466375, 604663, 622023, 626014, 637891, 637914

June 3 The first midterm exam is on Thursday June 7.  It will be held during the regular class hours.  The exam will cover GRR Chapters 16-18.  The exam will last about 90 minutes and will consist of 15 problems.  You are invited to bring a calculator, enough #2 pencils and erasors and a formula sheet that is written in your handwriting and that you can read without a magnifying glass.  Please do not wear a hat during the exam.  No communication device is allowed within the sight of the proctor, or it will be taken away.
May 15
The websites, consisting of this site, e-Learning and webassign are getting done.  If you see a mistake, please let me know.  The eLearning is also nearly done.  The lecture notes are posted at "Resources" in eLearning.  Old exams will also be posted there this week.
May 14 Students with Disabilities: Students requesting classroom accommodation for disabilities must first register with the Dean of Students Office. That office will provide you with documentation that you will provide to the instructor at the beginning of the semester.
