PHY 2054 - Physics II - Summer 2015

CONNECT ONLINE GRADED HOMEWORK
(due by 11:00pm on the dates shown below)

Important notice: Online homework must represent your own work and the use of other solutions constitutes academic dishonesty.

Accessing the Connect homework system (very important)

  • To access the Connect online homework system you must enter through the course Canvas e-Learning web page. Otherwise, your points will not be transferred to our grading system.
  • Follow these pdf directions to register in Connect and to access it afterwards.
Note that the first online homework assignment is due on Monday, May 18, 2015. The course schedule page shows the due dates for all homeworks. Once the due date/time has passed no further input of answers for credit will be accepted. It is your responsibility to get your homework completed on time. Last minute computer/local server problems will not excuse you from this responsibility.

Connect Homework Problems:
  • The problems come from your textbook. However, the numerical values of the variables for each problem are different for each student. Each student will get two chances at a problem, i.e. two versions of the same problem with different numbers.
  • Guided Solutions are available on Connect, but using them forfeits your current problem and gives you a new version with different numbers. You only get two chances at a problem, so if you use the Guided Solutions on your second chance, you won't be able to get credit for that problem. Some problem only give a single chance regardless of the settings. If you click the Guided Solutions button and it prompts you to choose "Try Again" or "Give Up", it means that your current attempt is your last attempt and if you choose "Give Up" you will not get another chance at the problem.
  • You will have five tries (or three if the question is simple enough that it can't be randomized per student) to get the correct answer for each chance (so 10 / 6 total). You will not be counted off for "significant figures," however Connect may sometimes round their answer too much. To get credit your answer must be correct within 5% and must have the correct sign. To avoid losing precision, do not round off numbers in the intermediate steps of your calculations. If you're sure you're doing the problem correctly and Connect is counting it wrong, try rounding to fewer digits, or if you're still on your first chance, use the Guided Solution to see what they want and then apply that to your second chance.
  • You can only submit each assignment once; so, make sure you complete the assignment before submitting it.
To provide a measure of forgiveness for illnesses and possible network problems, 10% of the online homework grades will be dropped in evaluating your final grade. Check the overall grade formula (PDF) to see how the homework grade is computed.
