PHY 2054 - Physics II - Summer 2016

CONNECT ONLINE GRADED HOMEWORK
(due by 9:00:00 pm on the dates shown below)

Important notice: Online homework must represent your own work and the use of other solutions constitutes academic dishonesty.

Accessing the Connect homework system (very important)

  • To access the Connect online homework system you must enter through the course Canvas e-Learning web page. Otherwise, your points will not be transferred to our grading system.
  • Follow these pdf directions to register in Connect and to access it afterwards.
Note that the first online homework assignment is due on Monday, May 16th, 2016. The course schedule page shows the due dates for all homeworks. Once the due date/time has passed no further input of answers for credit will be accepted. It is your responsibility to get your homework completed on time. Last minute computer/local server problems will not excuse you from this responsibility.

Connect Homework Problems:
  • The problems come from your textbook. However, the numerical values of the variables for each problem are different for each student.
  • Effective May 25th, 2016, Solutions and Guided Solutions are no longer available on Connect.
  • You will have a large number of attempts to get the right answer. We want to encourage students to work out the right answer instead of stopping after 2 or 3 attempts. You will not be counted off for "significant figures," however Connect may sometimes round their answer too much. To get credit your answer must be correct within 5% and must have the correct sign. To avoid losing precision, obtain symbolic expressions for the unknown in terms of givens (with all placeholders eliminated), OR retain a huge number of decimal places (less elegant and much more work). If you're sure you're doing the problem correctly and Connect is counting it wrong, be certain to take a screenshot of the correct answer marked wrong allegedly in error. Make sure you include the problem-statement in your screenshot so that your instructor can test the values to be plugged in, and decide whether or not to report the problem to McGraw-Hill.
To provide a measure of forgiveness for illnesses and possible network problems, 10% of the online homework grades will be dropped in evaluating your final grade. Check the overall grade formula (PDF) to see how the homework grade is computed.
