DESCRIPTION
The course is the second of the PHY3513-4523 sequence. With the knowledge of thermodynamics, we will develope techniques with which various thermodynamic quatities can be calculated for classical and quantum mechanical systems.

GRADING POLICY
Homework     Five sets of HW will be assigned in this course. Each homework will be distributed as a PDF file through e-mail, usually on Friday. The due date of homework will be specified on the homework sheet (usually a week after). Make your solutions neat, concise, and intelligible.
Homeworks submitted late will not be graded.

In-class Quizzes    There will be two in-class quizzes. 45 mins will be given for each quiz. Quiz should be consdiered as a small exam.

Exams      There will be two longer than 2 hour exams. The exam time will be announced later.

Report & Presentations Students will choose one subject out of suggested topics and write a comprehensive report and give a presentation. The list of topics will be provided in February. Student can form a group (up to 3 students) and can work collectively. Each group should submit one report but all members should participate in presentation equally. A template for report will be provided by the instructor. Each presentation will have 25 mins + 5 mins for questions.
