TEXTBOOK

"Introduction to Quantum Mechanics"' by David J. Griffiths, 2d edition, Pearson Prentice Hall 2005. We will cover the second half of that book, chapters 6 through 12. You are required to have a copy. You may find other textbooks useful, in particular "Principles of Quantum Mechanics"' by Ramamurti Shankar, Plenum Press 1980.

HOMEWORK

There will be one problem set per week. The best way to learn quantum mechanics is by solving problems. You are free to collaborate with other students or seek help, provided that this leads to real understanding. Do not consult a solution manual.

The homework is due on Wednesdays. To get full credit it must be handed in during class or in my mailbox no later than 5:30pm. If placed in my mailbox the next day (Thursday) before 5:30pm, the maximum credit is 75%. If Friday before 5:30pm, the maximum credit is 50%. After that, no credit will be given.

GRADING

The final grade will be based on the homework (40%) and three written exams (60%). The three exams have equal weight, and will occur on February 16, March 23 and April 30. None of the exams are cumulative.
