This experiment uses a spring loaded gun to shoot a ball at a target thatis hanging from an electromagnet. When the ball leaves the gun passes through a photogate that trips the electromagnet and causes the target to fall. Since both the ball and the target are falling due to gravity, they collide in mid-air. The gun and pad can be separated by 30+ feet if desired.
