This experiment consists of dropping a basketball with a styrofoam ball sitting on top. When they hit the ground a large velocity is imparted to the styrofoam ball (up to 9 times the velocity of the drop) during the collision and it shoots up into the air. This is a result of the momentum transfer during the collision.
