This experiment uses a brass mass hanging from a support that rotates. As the system is rotated the brass mass slings outwards and must be compensated for by a string pulling inwards that is attached to a spring and the red indicator mark shown in the center of the picture. Measurements of the centripetal force can calculated from this experiment by notinghow much mass must be hung over the pulley on the left in order to position theredindicator at the same spot as when the system is rotating.
