This experiment consists of a neon bulb attached to a large inductor. When a 6 volt battery is attached to the inductor the neon bulb does NOT light. However when the battery is disconnected, the back EMF of the collapsing magnetic field from the inductor creates a voltage spike of roughly 70 volts that lights the neon bulb. |
