This experiment uses a very large coil of wire that is hand rotated in the Earth's magnetic field to induce voltage in the coil. A commutator at the bottom of the coil can be changed out so that the voltage produced is either AC or DC. The induced voltage can be detected using either the ballistic galvanometer (that has a moving light spot to indicate voltage) or the computer/multimedia system.
