Previous | Home | NextClose-up picture of the termination of the "cold finger" vacuum tube. One can see the bellows directly attached to the bottom of the tube. This is to equalise any mechanical stress occuring due to differences in thermal contraction of the different materials involved. The bellows itself is closed by a saucer piece welded to it and a copper piece that sticks out of it through a hole in its center. This same copper piece has a funnel shape on the inside to mate and provide mechanical as well as thermal contact to the coldfinger attached to the bottom of the radiation can.
