Research Interest

My research is in the area of Experimental High Energy Physics in collider accelerator experiments, with the goal of understanding the basic structure of nature; which are the most elementary particles and how they interact.

In the past I carried out a program that studied proton-antiproton collisions at the CDF experiment at Fermilab’s Tevatron collider. There, I participated in the discovery of the Top Quark and studied its properties and production mechanisms. We also built a novel gaseous Cherenkov detector that measured with high precision the rate of proton-antiproton collisions (Luminosity) and that was used to calibrate the rates for all processes and discoveries detected in the experiment.

More recently, I have been carrying out a research program at the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). I participated in the discovery of the Higgs boson, and have been studying its decays into b-quark pairs. I am also searching for processes in which two (or more) Higgs bosons are produced. This has a large potential for elucidating further the nature of this particle and for discovery of new physics, beyond the Standard Model. Our group is also involved in the operations and upgrade of the fast electronics system that reconstructs muons in the CMS detector in real-time. This is a critical system to the whole physics program of the CMS experiment. In all of our projects we incorporate Machine Learning techniques that significantly enhance their reach.
