International Summer Research Program in Gravitational-Wave Physics:
Research Experiences for Undergraduates around the world

INFN and Dipartimento di Fisica - Università di Perugia

Significant gravitational wave related research has occurred in INFN Perugia over the past 20 years. Primarily, it has focused on the study of the thermal noise limit to the sensitivity of the Virgo interferometer. Recent research has broadened to include thermal noise modelling, direct experimental measurement of thermal noise, studies of dissipation in materials, gravitational waves data analysis (both hardware and software) and noise sources modelling (charging-discharging, eddy currents, thermo-elastic, non-equilibrium, etc). The INFN Perugia group has contributed to the design, construction, commissioning and operation of Virgo. It is now has coordination responsibility for the monolithic suspension design and realization for Virgo+/ADV-Virgo, and is active in the design studies of future generations of ground and space based gravitational wave detectors.
