Curious about Research in Physics?

Are you interested in Physics research or in knowing about how it happens?
Are you intending to do research in Physics but still unsure of the exact area?

Read on, this program may be for you.

Under-represented in Science and Engineering?

Are you from a small school with limited access to physics research facilities?
Do you have minority status and seek increased exposure to research?

Prepared to take a plunge, stretch your horizons?

Are you willing to be challenged by a life-changing experience in this program?
Are you ready for personal growth in self-reliance and international awareness?

Background

The NSF is eager to increase the flux of young students, and minorities in particular, into a life of scientific research, an essential growth area for future national economic prosperity. REU programs are designed to give undergraduates early exposure to what a life in research may be like, to allow them to experience the excitement it stimulates, and to encourage and support them to pursue it. If you feel that is the challenge you have been waiting for, keep reading! This opportunity may be what you have been thoughtfully seeking.

Overview

The focus of the UF's International REU program is in Gravitational Physics.

Our program, made possible by the National Science Foundation, is designed to expose students to the rigors of gravitational physics research within a setting that truly reflects its international character. For a period of 9-10 weeks during the summer, participants work on research projects in some of the best gravitational physics labs in Europe and Australasia. During their stay, students also benefit from the valuable cultural enrichment that comes with living in a foreign environment. The program is open only to US residents, and applications for Summer 2024 are now being accepted.

Note: there is also a separate, domestic REU program in Materials Physics at UF which is outlined here.

Further Details

Each year we have a large range of exciting projects lined up at host sites around the world. To know more, visit the Projects and International Hosts pages for further details about our program, and take time to explore the whole site.

If you are contemplating a life in scientific research, and gravitational physics really interests you, we invite you to submit an application in full by January 9th, and face being challenged by this wonderful opportunity! Under-represented minorities and students from small schools with limited research resources are particularly encouraged to apply.
