TRANSPORTATION

Getting to Gainesville:

  • The city of Gainesville has its own airport (GNV) served by American Airlines, Delta, Silver, US Airways, and United.
  • If you are looking for more or cheaper flights, several bigger airports can be reached by car in about 2 hours. The airports include Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), and Jacksonville (JAX).
  • If you are flying to/from an airport other than Gainesville, and prefer not to rent a car, we might be able to help you coordinate and share a transport with other participants on a similar travel schedule. Please submit your travel plan here as soon as possible. We will contact you no later than a week before the start of the meeting with suggestions.

To/from Gainesville airport:

  • Taxi cab: several taxicab companies operate at the Gainesville Airport. Reservations are not required, but you can find a complete list with phone numbers here. The trip from the Airport to the hotel costs between $25 and $35.
  • Bus: public buses run from/to the airport between 7:45 to 18:35 Mon-Sat, and from 9:55 to 17:30 on Sunday. You will have to change one bus (specifics depends on the day and time of your arrival), and the trip takes between 1 and 1:30 hour in total. Please refer to the Regional Transporation System website (http://go-rts.com/), which has a functional trip planner on the home page (use "airport" and "Hilton Gainesville" as departure/arrival).
  • Rental car: several rental car companies operate at the Gainesville Regional Airport. Driving from the airport to the hotel takes about 20 minutes.

From the hotel to downtown

  • Bus: lines 20, 2, 28, and 34 stop in front of the Hilton hotel, but none of them quite reaches downtown (although some get close). Please refer to the trip planner and schedule on the RTS website (http://go-rts.com/), and to the real time bus locator and map (http://ufl.transloc.com/)
  • Shuttle service: complimentary shuttle buses will be made available on the evenings of Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to transport attendees to and from downtown, between about 6 pm and midnight. More detailed information will be provided during the conference.
