SPS Organizes Science Bowl

On Saturday, February 27, the University of Florida Society of Physics Students (SPS, http://www.phys.ufl.edu/~sps/sps/SPS_Home.html) organized the North Central Florida Regional DOE Science Bowl. Fifteen high school teams participated in this event. After 17 grueling rounds, Durant high school won the science bowl and will represent North Central Florida at the National Science Bowl (http://www.scied.science.doe.gov/nsb/). The SPS officers teamed up with the UF Undergraduate Astrophysics Society and volunteers from the Department of Physics (undergraduate and graduate students) and the UF honors program. They did an excellent job organizing the event which started at 8:30 am and ended at 8:00 pm. The competition was sponsored by the Department of Physics, the SPS, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and other local sponsors from around Gainesville. The SPS plans to organize the event again in 2011.
