CMS-CSC Beamtest 2Sept 003 at CERN-X5A >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< Access Requirements =================== All users are required to get a CERN film badge. There is no problem for registered CERN users to get a temporary badge ( <2 months ). It is also likely that we will have to attend a CERN fire safety seminar which is offered 1-2 times weekly. >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< X5A Location & Info =================== The X5A beamtest area is in building 180 at CERN. Our control room there is upstairs in room 1-E11; there is an access code you have to type to unlock the door: 135680. The phone number of our control room is 767-6056. Cars can be parked near the GIF in front of building 190. >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< Shipping address to CERN: Petr Levchenko CERN, EP Division 2, route de Meyrin CH-1211, GENEVE 23 SWITZERLAND phone: 4179 201 0537 Inside CERN use Site Meyrin, Bat. 375, Entrance I-3. phone: 160537 >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< Schedule ======== From: owner-lhc-exp-ttc@listbox.cern.ch [mailto:owner-lhc-exp-ttc@listbox.cern.ch] On Behalf Of Bruce Taylor Sent: Tuesday, August 05, 2003 5:22 AM To: lhc-exp-ttc@listbox.cern.ch Subject: Additional LHC-structured beam run Following the special meeting on 31 July, the DG has now approved the request for an additional SPS run with LHC-structured beams in September 2003. The provisional schedule is that set-up for the run will start in parallel with the PS MD on Wednesday September 17. The run should start at 08:00h on Thursday September 18 and continue until 08:00h on Sunday September 21. Depending on the 25 ns set-up progress on Wednesday, beam could be available before Thursday morning. If significant run time is lost due to machine problems, the SPS Long MD on September 21/22 might be cancelled to allow the LHC-structured beam run to be prolonged until 08:00h on Monday September 22. I shall be on hand as usual to provide on-site TTC support during the period of the run. However, I shall be on holiday during the preceding week 8 - 14 September. Hence I should like to ask those responsible for the TTC systems of the participating groups to contact me as far in advance as possible, so that arrangements can be made for them to receive the machine timing signals at their experimental areas. The revised users' schedule is being drawn-up and will take into account the request for such a structured beam from the CMS users as detailed in a memo sent to the coordinator last month. Best regards, Emmanuel =========================================================================== CERN, Geneva August 1, 2003 Dear SPS Users, at the last LHCC meeting early July, ATLAS requested a second 25ns run of 5 days at the end of the SPS proton run in September. At the time of the request, no recommendation by the LHCC could be given as more justifications from ATLAS were requested. As the next LHCC and the next Research Board will only take place in September, a special meeting was held yesterday morning with the Research Directors, the SPSC chairman, the LHCC referee for ATLAS and the SPS/PS Coordinator. Following the recommendations of the meeting yesterday, the Director General APPROVED a second 25ns run at the end of the SPS proton run in September 2003 with the following scenario: - The SPS proton physics run with normal fixed target proton beam ends on Wednesday, September 17, 8:00 - Set-up for 25ns beam starts on Wednesday, September 17, 8:00 in parallel to the already scheduled PS MD. The set-up might take approximately 24 hours. - Then the 25ns run will take place for 3 days from Thursday, September 18, 8:00 to Sunday, September 21, 8:00. Depending on the 25ns set-up progress, beam might be available already before Thursday morning. - In case of major machine problems leading to significant losses during the 25ns physics run, the SPS Long MD on September 21/22 might be canceled and the 25ns run might be prolonged as long as Monday, September 22, 8:00 (start of Technical Stop). There are no further changes to the schedule, i.e.: - NA48/2 running ends on Monday, September 8, 10:00 (start of LHC extraction MD) as foreseen in the present schedule. - Start and end dates of the Indium run are kept and were not touched. - No further extension in November beyond the present end of the SPS run is foreseen. Users affected by the 25ns run will be contacted individually before a new user schedule for the 25ns running period will be released next week.
