Title: Gravitational waves from inspiraling binary black holes Affiliation: Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (CNRS) and Caltech Abstract: Binary black holes are the most promising candidate sources for the first generation of earth-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. After an introduction to gravitational-wave research, we review and discuss the state-of-the-art analytic techniques developed during the last years to describe the late dynamical evolution of those systems and to calculate theoretical waveforms to be used as templates in the search for gravitational waves.
