Direct link to daily reading assignments (JiTT)

I will post copies of reading assignments and questions from previous classes here:

Jan11, Jan16, Jan18, Jan23, Jan25, Jan30, Feb1, Feb8, Feb13, Feb15, Feb20, Feb22,

Feb27, Mar01, Mar20, Mar22, Mar29, Mar29, Apr3, Apr5, Apr10, Apr12

Reading assignments (pre-flights) will be given prior most classes. The purpose of the reading assignments is to prepare you for class. If you skip these assignments, you WILL NOT gain the maximum benefit from the lectures. Furthermore, I will not cover everything in class. It is up to you to know all of the material covered in the text book.

To assist you in the reading, brief (sometimes provocative) assignments will be posted on the JiTT page. These assignments will help you to see if you have understood the reading, and will also provide you with an opportunity to give me feedback on the reading assignment prior to that day's class.

  • The assignments will be posted on the "JiTT" page (nowhere else!)

    • A new set of problems will be posted shortly after the previous class (within a few hours).

    • The problem sets will always consist of two multiple choice questions. However, I encourage you to explain your thoughts, or include any questions you may have with each submission. A space is provided for you to input text after every question, and again at the end of the assignment.
    • I will not be able to grade your assignments if they are submitted after 6am on the day of class.

  • Daily reading assignments will be graded and count 6% towards your final grade; the grade will be based on the multiple choice questions. However, if you submit an incorrect answer, but clearly explain your reasoning, I may still give you partial or even full credit.

  • We will frequently have quizzes in class, based on that day's assignment.

    • These quizzes will NOT normally be announced ahead of time

    • Multiple-choice quizzes will be administered using the remote Student Response System (SRS, or HiTT)

    • The quizzes WILL count 6% towards your final grade

    • Solutions to quizzes will be discussed in-class

  • You will be allowed to drop a percentage of daily homework and quiz scores, thereby allowing you to miss some of them without penalty.

    • I will drop the equivalent of 20% of your lowest quiz scores.

    • For example, if there are 30 quizzes, I will drop your 6 lowest scores.

  • Each daily homework and each quiz will be weighted equally towards 6% of your final grade
