Instructions

Weekly homework will be assigned, counting 30% towards your final grade. Some fraction of the homework problems will be selected from the end of chapter problems in the text book. However, I will also set my own problems from time-to-time. I will try to maintain Wednesday deadlines. However, there are several weeks during the semester where the deadlines will change due to my absence or university holidays. It is your responsibility to keep track of the deadlines which will always be clearly posted on this web page. Homework assignments will be handed out roughly once per week in class. However, copies of ALL assignments will also be posted here. So, missing a class is not an excuse for missing an assignment.

Homework solutions must be legible (you may use a word processor, though hand written solutions will be much easier for you). Illegible work will be returned without a grade. You are expected to include all steps in your calculations in your solutions to problems. The homework assignments will be graded by a graduate teaching assistant. However, all questions regarding grading of homework should be directed to the instructor. No homework will be accepted after the deadlines given in the table above. Note that solutions to each assignment will be posted soon after the deadline.

You are welcome, indeed encouraged, to collaborate on the homework assignments. However, you will perform poorly on the tests if you simply copy solutions from your friends without actually learning how to do the problems. There is no excuse for not getting close to 100% on the homework assignments. You are welcome to come and see me for help with homework assignments at any time, though I prefer office hours.
