Instructions

Weekly homework will be assigned, counting 25% towards your final grade. A pdf version of each assignment will be available in the above table as soon as it has been assigned. Most of the problems will be selected from the end of chapter problems in the text book. However, I will also set my own problems from time-to-time.

The deadlines for each assignment will be given in the table above, and will be clearly indicated on each assignment which will also be handed out in hard copy format in class. It is your responsibility to keep track of the deadlines. Note that the days/times that these homework assignments are due will vary from one week to the next, depending the coverage of material. Homework assignments will be handed out roughly once per week in class. However, as noted above, copies of ALL assignments will also be posted here in pdf format. So, missing a class is not an excuse for missing an assignment.

Homework solutions must be legible (you may use a word processor, though hand written solutions will be much easier for you). Illegible work will be returned without a grade. You are expected to include all steps in your calculations in your solutions to problems. A numerical answer is not sufficient. Indeed, numerical answers to ALL problems can be found in Appendix G in the text book; the instructor cannot guarantee the accuracy/validity of these answers. The homework assignments will be graded by a graduate teaching assistant. However, all questions regarding grading of homework should be directed to the instructor. No homework will be accepted after the deadlines given in the table above. Note that full solutions to each assignment will be posted above soon after the deadline.

You are welcome, indeed encouraged, to collaborate on the homework assignments. However, you will perform poorly on the tests if you simply copy solutions from your friends without actually learning how to do the problems. There is no excuse for NOT getting close to 100% on the homework assignments. You are welcome to come and see me for help with homework assignments at any time, though I prefer office hours.
