MC4BSM Sherpa Tutorial

PRE-WORKSHOP

DOWNLOAD:

mkdir sherpa140
cd sherpa140
wget http://www.hepforge.org/archive/sherpa/SHERPA-MC-1.4.0.tar.gz
(or curl -O http://www.hepforge.org/archive/sherpa/SHERPA-MC-1.4.0.tar.gz)

INSTALL:

tar -xzf SHERPA-MC-1.4.0.tar.gz
cd SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/
./configure --enable-analysis
(or ./configure --enable-analysis --enable-fastjet=path/to/fastjet --enable-pythia)
make -j2 install

TEST (optional, takes 15~30 minutes):

cd Examples/Tevatron_WJets/
../../bin/Sherpa
(what I got: Total XS is 2352.41 pb +- ( 23.0742 pb = 0.98 % ))

(take a look at Process/P2_2/2_2__u__ub__uv__uvb.ps [reference])

PARTON-LEVEL (Section 6):

cd ../ToyModel_PartonLevel
(take a look at Run.dat)
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa
./makelibs
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa EVENTS=1000
(to get event display, do ../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa EVENTS=1 OUTPUT=1)

HADRON-LEVEL (Section 7):

cd ../ToyModel_HadronLevel
(take a look at Run.dat and Analysis.dat)
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa
./makelibs
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa EVENTS=1000
./plot_results.sh
(take a look at plots.ps [reference])

PARTIAL WIDTHS (Section 8):

cd ../Widths
(take a look at Run.dat)
(update the widths in Particle.dat)
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa

Z+jets BACKGROUNDS (Section 9):

cd ../Background_ZJets
(take a look at Run.dat and Run.NLO.dat))
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa EVENTS=1000
../SHERPA-MC-1.4.0/bin/Sherpa -f Run.NLO.dat
./makelibs
