PHY 4523 Statistical Physics
Spring 2001

This course is an introduction to statistical physics. Topics covered include the fundamental postulates of statistical thermodynamics, equilibrium ensembles for classical and quantum systems, kinetic theory, and transport. Applications will be taken from many different areas of physics.

PHY 4523 is designed for students who are already familiar with classical equilbrium thermodynamics (at the level of PHY 3062 or PHY 3513). A familiarity with quantum mechanics is an advantage.
