PHZ 7427

Solid State 2 — Spring 2009

Overview

PHZ 7427 is the second course in the graduate condensed matter physics curriculum. It is aimed at students who have successfully completed a course covering the single-particle properties of electrons (band structure) and of harmonic lattice vibrations (phonons) at the level of PHZ 6426 Solid State I. The course introduces collective phenomena in solids, including electron-electron interactions, magnetism, electron-phonon interactions, superconductivity, and transport in disordered and low-dimensional systems.
