Travel from Jacksonville International Airport to the University of Florida
The drive from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) to Gainesville is approximately 85 miles, and typically takes between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Driving Directions
- Follow signs for the airport exit.
- Merge onto International Airport Boulevard, following signs for I-295.
- After approximately 2 miles, merge onto I-295 South.
- After approximately 12.5 miles, take exit 21B (I-10 West).
- Merge onto I-10 West (Lake City/Tallahassee).
- After approximately 13 miles, take exit 343 (US-301, Baldwin).
- Merge onto US-301 South (Lawtey/Starke).
- Remain on US-301 South for approximately 37 miles, passing through the towns of Lawtey and Starke, to the outskirts of Waldo. (Note that the posted speed limits are strictly enforced in these three towns.)
- Fork right onto SR-24 (Gainesville) just before US-301 rises to pass over a bridge.
- Take SR-24 for approximately 10 miles to the outskirts of Gainesville.
- Continue through a light at NE 53rd Avenue.
- At the next light, turn right onto NE 39th Avenue (SR-222).
- Take 39 Avenue west for 3.0 miles to its intersection with NW 13th Street.
- Turn left onto NW 13th Street.
- Take NW 13th Street south for 2.5 miles to its intersection with W University Avenue. (University Ave is equivalent to NW 0th Ave, so it is fairly easy to count down the crossing streets between NW 39th Ave and W University Ave.)
- The University of Florida campus begins at the southwest corner of the intersection between W University Avenue and NW 13th Street.
- To reach the Physics Department, turn right onto W University Avenue.
- Continue on University Avenue through lights at Newell, Buckman, and Fletcher Drives until you reach the light at Gale Lemerand Drive.
- Turn left onto Gale Lemerand Drive, passing between large brick entrance signs.
